To address dark complexion and balance melanin in a 17-year-old, it’s essential to consider both internal and external factors within Ayurveda. Start by evaluating his current lifestyle and diet, as these can significantly impact skin health. Encourage him to consume a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, particularly those high in antioxidants like berries, spinach, and pomegranate. These help neutralize free radicals that may cause skin damage. Ensure he’s drinking plenty of water daily to maintain hydration and support skin elasticity.
Include in his routine practices the application of turmeric paste mixed with a little honey and milk. Turmeric is known for its skin-brightening properties and can help reduce pigmentation over time. Apply this paste on the face, leave it on for about 20 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat this 2-3 times a week. Encourage him to avoid excessive sun exposure and use a natural sunscreen containing ingredients like aloe vera or coconut oil when heading out during peak sun hours.
Premature greying of hair often reflects underlying imbalances and nutritional deficiencies. Stress reduction through yoga or meditation is crucial, as stress can accelerate hair greying. Consuming amla (Indian gooseberry) juice or powder, is highly recommended due to its rich Vitamin C content and hair-darkening properties. Mixing amla powder with coconut or sesame oil to massage into the scalp can also promote healthier hair. Let it sit for an hour before rinsing with a mild Ayurvedic shampoo.
Additionally, consuming a diet rich in proteins, vitamins B12, and omega-3 fatty acids can further support healthy hair pigmentation. Foods like fish, walnuts, and flaxseeds should, if possible, be included. Ensuring proper sleep and maintaining a routine are also key components in assisting with both issues.
