Seeking Ayurvedic Guidance for Genetic Condition and Digestive Issues - #44179
I am battling a genetic condition that comes with pseudo obstruction, adhesions in colon and visceral enteric neuropathy as well as autonomic imbalance (blood pressure fluctuations) and weakness. Western medicine does not have good answers for this. I don't have access to an ayurvedic clinic here but from all I have tried in life and particularly now as things worsen significantly in menopause Ayurvedic measures have helped me the most. Helpful measures: Guduchi (gut), Arjuna (blood pressure), and I think Punarnava is helping the kidney stones and pain (but unsure). I am not an Ayurvedic practitioner and helpless when it comes to dosage and whether I am doing the right thing. I have significant worsening when stopping Guduchi and it is very difficult to take breaks from it. I am wondering if oil basti (well aware it should only be done in a clinical setting) could help this problem. Homebound for many years now and just seeking any solution. Regarding diet: anything easy to digest is most helpful (e.g. red rice soup with cumin or green gram soup seem to be okay, small meals, not too much to drink). Cupping type massage helps. The worst foods are nuts, and anything that is difficult to digest. I feel very alone in my journey and any help re dosage, taking breaks, additional measures that could help would be highly appreciated. Thank you for your help and special thanks to Dr. Narendrakumar Mishra, who has answered a question before regarding my problem when it was less defined and advised Guduchi which has brought such relief.

Managing your condition with Ayurveda requires a nuanced approach, as it spans multiple systems in the body. Here are tailored suggestions based on your concerns. Guduchi is often praised for balancing Vata and aiding digestion. It’s generally taken as a decoction or tablet, around 1-2 tsp of the powder or as per package instructions for tablets. I understand your difficulty with taking breaks, but intermittently pausing may prevent tolerance buildup. Consult with a practitioner when possible to adjust your regimen safely.
Arjuna is excellent for cardiac health and stabilizing blood pressure; typically consumed as powder with water or milk. Again, dosage varies but generally 1-2 tsp twice daily is customary. Monitor your blood pressure regularly to track its effectiveness.
Punarnava can indeed help with renal functions and potentially alleviate discomfort from kidney stones. It is usually taken around 1 tsp with water twice daily. Ensure you’re hydrating well, in line with your capacity to safely process liquids.
Considering Oil Basti, it is undeniably indicated for Vata disorders, but should ideally be conducted under professional supervision to avoid complications. Given your inaccessibility to clinics, directing focus on external adjuct therapies like local abhyanga (oil massage) with warm sesame oil, followed by a gentle sauna or steam can effectively balance Vata.
For diet—continue emphasizing easily digestible foods. Incorporating ginger and fennel in your meals may further aid digestion. Avoid ‘heavy’ foods, like nuts. Remember small frequent meals can stabilize blood glucose, stopping energy dips.
Lifestyle wise, gentle yoga or breath regulation can support autonomic balance. As always, use caution—regular health check-ups are crucial. While it’s not an exhaustive solution, these components broadly outline a path forward that harmonizes with Ayurveda’s principles and your specific needs.
