Seeking Ayurvedic Treatment for Foot Injury Recovery - #46017
I had a foot injury when I fell on a roller tire of a net stand that was behind my court while I was taking a shot during my badminton game. I fell backward and stepped on the roller, which I believe caused my foot to twist. As a result of the impact, I sustained a chip fracture of my cuboid bone and a sprained ankle. After two months, the pain in my cuboid bone has improved by about 70%, and the ankle pain has improved by around 60%. I am now able to walk, but I cannot run or play sports. I feel much more pain in my ankle than in the cuboid bone area. At the same time, I find it difficult to identify the exact source of the pain, as I feel pain all around the ankle and cuboid region. I also experience stiffness in my ankle. I am unsure which specialist I should consult. I have consulted several orthopedic doctors and foot specialists, but none have been able to provide a satisfactory explanation or result. I am wondering whether I should continue seeking medical advice or simply wait for it to heal on its own . Is there any treatment in ayurveda ?

Doctors' responses
In Ayurveda, your condition is looked at by understanding factors like vata dosha imbalance, particularly due to the nature of the injury and its impact on the mobility of your foot. Based on the classical texts, ensuring proper healing of bones and reducing inflammation is essential, and ayurveda offers ways to support this.
For your current condition, consider using medicated oils like Mahanarayana Taila or Kottamchukkadi Taila for local application. Warm a small amount and gently massage the affected area twice daily, which can help improve circulation and reduce stiffness. Do this with gentle pressure to avoid exacerbating the pain.
Herbal medicines like Guggulu based formulations such as Yograj Guggulu or Punarnavadi Guggulu can aid in managing inflammation and promoting bone healing. Take these under a physician’s advice, as dosage may vary based on specific body constitution.
Diet plays a crucial role as well. Consume foods that are warm, unctuous and grounding, such as soups and stews, which support tissue nourishment. Include ginger and turmeric in your diet for their anti-inflammatory properties. Avoid raw foods and excessive cold and dry items, as they can aggravate vata further.
Rest is crucial. Avoid strenuous activities and allow the foot sufficient time to heal. Incorporating gentle yoga or stretching exercises, specifically guided by a professional, could enhance ankle mobility over time.
Applying a warm compress intermittently could also aid in relieving pain and stiffness after oil application. Listen to your body; if any activity causes pain, give it time.
If you’re not finding satisfactory results from consultation and still experience significant pain or have concerns about bone healing, it may be beneficial to continue working with healthcare professionals in addition to ayurvedic practices. Ayurveda emphasizes harmony, and freqent monitoring by a healthcare provider ensures no complications arise during recovery.
