Seeking Safe Ways to Manage Lymphoedema - #49392
I have lymphoedema and I’m looking for safe ways to reduce inflammation and swelling in my leg. I’m currently using gentle daily compression (properly fitted stockings or wraps), elevation above heart level when resting, and light movement like walking and ankle pumps to help lymph flow. I’m also focusing on good skin care (moisturizing, avoiding cuts, treating fungal infections quickly) to prevent infections that can worsen swelling. I’d like guidance on manual lymphatic drainage and whether complete decongestive therapy (CDT) with a certified lymphedema therapist is appropriate. Please advise which options are safest and most effective for my situation.
How long have you been experiencing lymphoedema?:
- 3-6 monthsWhat is the severity of the swelling in your leg?:
- Moderate, some discomfortHave you received any previous treatments for lymphoedema?:
- No, this is my first approach

Doctors' responses
Complete decongestive therapy (CDT): Yes—recommended for your situation. It’s the gold standard and combines MLD, optimized compression, exercise, and skin care. Early treatment (like now) is especially effective. -MLD works best as part of CDT, not alone.
You are already doing the best modern care (compression, elevation, exercise, skin care). Continue that. Oil Massage (Abhyanga) Use warm sesame oil or Sahacharadi oil Massage very gently, from foot toward knee and thigh Do daily before bath Avoid if redness, wound, or infection present Punarnava tablet / Punarnavadi Kashayam – 1tab bd helps reduce swelling Triphala churna – 1 tsp at night with warm water (helps digestion & detox) Mahamanjsiadhi gana vati 1tab bd Makardwaja 1tab bd AF Eat warm, light food Reduce salt, fried food, junk food Take turmeric, ginger, cumin in food Drink warm water
