Managing diabetes effectively, especially after 14 years of struggling with the condition, requires a holistic approach that goes beyond medication. In Ayurveda, diabetes (known as Prameha or Madhumeha) is often attributed to an imbalance in the Kapha and Pitta doshas, leading to the accumulation of toxins (ama) in the body, which can impact digestion and metabolism. To address your diabetes and the fatigue you're experiencing, it's essential to focus on a comprehensive lifestyle modification plan that includes dietary changes, herbal remedies, and regular physical activity. Begin by adopting a diet that emphasizes whole, unprocessed foods. Incorporate bitter vegetables (like bitter gourd), whole grains (like barley and quinoa), and high-fiber foods (such as legumes and green leafy vegetables) that help stabilize blood sugar levels. Hydration is equally important; drink adequate amounts of water and herbal teas, such as fenugreek or cinnamon tea, which can support blood sugar regulation. Avoid excessive intake of refined carbohydrates and sugars, as these can lead to spikes in blood sugar levels. In terms of herbal treatments, formulations like Karela (bitter gourd) juice, Jamun (black plum) powder, and Triphala can be beneficial for managing blood sugar levels. Additionally, Ashwagandha can help reduce stress and improve energy levels, combating fatigue. Incorporating regular exercise into your routine, such as walking, yoga, or any form of physical activity you enjoy, can significantly improve insulin sensitivity and energy levels. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week.

Been dealing with diabetes for so long must be really tiring. Especially if medications aren’t working like they should. Let's look at it from an ayurvedic view. When it comes to diabetes, or ‘Prameha’ as we call it in Ayurveda, it's usually about an imbalance in Kapha and sometimes the Pitta dosha too. We also gotta consider your agni or digestive fire, might be weak, which affects your energy and metabolism. This could be why you're feeling so worn out. First things first, let's talk about diet. We focus on what helps balance those doshas. Incorporate more bitter and astringent tastes. Leafy greens, gourds like bitter melon, and spices like turmeric, cumin, and fenugreek, they're your new best friends. Avoid too much dairy, sugar, and processed foods – they can aggravate Kapha. Try to don't skip meals, but make dinner light, maybe by 7 in the evening. As for lifestyle, routine can work wonders. Wake up with sunrise, and try some gentle exercise like walking, yoga or tai chi. Not too intense, but enough to get blood moving. And about that tiredness, pranayama techniques—specifically Kapalabhati and Anulom Vilom, can help energize you and balance doshas. Twenty minutes every morning can do the magic! Consider also trying herbs like Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) and Amalaki (Indian Gooseberry), known to support digestion and immunity. But do remember talk to a practitioner before starting any new herbs. Sleep is another thing. Aim for 7 to 8 hours as it is key for your energy levels and overall healing process. Reduce screen time in the evening, and unwind with some warm, herbal tea. Never forget to stay in touch with your regular healthcare provider as well. Ayurveda and conventional medicine can go hand in hand, so it’s important to keep your doctor in the loop. Watch out for any symptoms that seem out of the ordinary and seek help promptly. Okay?
