Coping with Depression and Loss After Multiple Tragedies - #46119

Client_035853

Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis I was given asking with Semitic dermatitis. The depression is becoming severe. I have lost a child not long ago. The first year, Iawoke daily and maintained my usual disciplined cycle. Meditation. Swimming.Yoga. Therapy. Socialising. I then went on holiday to visit a friend from childhood. pandemic came. I lost my home. My mother. My fiancé. His mother. 3 close friends and the friend I came to visit just passed all in 4 years time. Is this the cause… for my depression and what can I do as I am close to becoming homeless and have lost control of my ability to revive my conciseness to mindfulness

Doctors' responses

Depression you’re experiencing undoubtedly can be correlated with the overwhelming grief and significant loss in your life. Ayurvedic perspective sees such emotional suffering as a disturbance of the mind and imbalance in the doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta. These imbalances can manifest as depression, anxiety, and disconnection from oneself. Addressing both the mind and body is crucial in such situations.

First, focus on grounding the Vata energy by establishing a stable, nurturing routine. Begin your day with a self-massage using warm sesame or almond oil, known as abhyanga, to calm the nervous system. After massaging, follow with a warm shower. Trying to go to bed and wake up at consistent times also aid in re-establishing regular rhythms.

Incorporate dietary adjustments to pacify Vata and Pitta: favor warm, cooked meals with sweet, sour, and salty tastes. Include ghee, lentils, whole grains, cooked vegetables, and grounding herbs like ashwagandha and bhringaraj. Avoid caffeine, sugar, and processed foods which can increase Vata and Pitta agitation.

Meditative techniques remain important. Consider Trataka, or candle gazing, which aids in focus and calming the mind. Simple Pranayama practices like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) to balance the energies can be helpful. Time permitting, still engage in gentle Yoga with an emphasis on restorative postures such as child’s pose or legs-up-the-wall pose.

Herbs such as Brahmi and Jatamansi are beneficial for calming the mind and promoting restful sleep. However, considering you’re close to becoming homeless, immediate practical concerns need attention along with emotional stability. Seek local resources offering guidance with housing and financial aid. Reach out to community services or local charities for support in this urgently.

If the depression feels overwhelming, see a conventional mental health professional to explore comprehensive care. Ayurveda can support your healing journey, but collaboration with medical support provides vital safety.
