Doctors’ responses

In Ayurveda, liver cirrhosis, along with associated issues like a shrunken gallbladder and spleen problems, is viewed as a severe imbalance in Pitta and Kapha doshas, leading to impaired liver function and accumulation of toxins (Ama). While complete reversal of cirrhosis may not be possible, Ayurveda can help manage symptoms, improve liver function, and slow progression. I recommend Punarnava Mandur and Arogyavardhini Vati for supporting liver detoxification and regeneration. Bhringraj and Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata) are potent herbs for liver protection and reducing inflammation. Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa) helps in rejuvenating liver cells and improving bile flow. Additionally, a Pitta-pacifying diet—avoiding spicy, oily, and processed foods—is crucial. Regular intake of fresh vegetables, fruits, and adequate hydration, along with lifestyle modifications like stress management and avoiding alcohol, is essential. Regular monitoring by an Ayurvedic practitioner, along with continued medical supervision, is advised.

Liver cirrhosis is taken seriously in Ayurveda too, and tackling it involves a thoughtful, holistic approach tailored to your situation. Now, while reversing cirrhosis entirely is pretty challenging, slowing its progression and supporting your liver health is defiinitly possible with Ayurveda. First off, since the liver is linked with pitta dosha, you need to focus on balancing it. Avoiding spicy, oily, and sour food is essential — think fresh fruits (but skip citrus), vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Consider including turmeric in your diet, as it has anti-inflammatory properties that can aid liver function. It’s like a daily miracle herb! Use it in meals or brew a small turmeric tea. Then there’s punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) and bhringraj (Eclipta alba) — Ayurvedic herbs that are known for supporting liver health. You might wanna take these in churna (powder) form, like half a teaspoon with warm water twice a day. Your gallbladder's shrinkage might respond well to a gentle diet, mulled with good fats like ghee. You know, a teaspoon of ghee with hot milk in the morning, sounds odd but it helps! Daily routine matters more than you think. Try a simple practice of deep-breathing or meditation for stress reduction—stress is a hidden culprit that can worsen liver issues! And hey, stay hydrated, don’t underestimate the power of plain old water. Please remember though, integrating these Ayurvedic remedies is best when combined with your doctor's advice. We wouldn't want to mess with something critical. In serious conditions like cirrhosis, close coordination with a healthcare profeesional is always, always wise. So, tweak your diet, incorporate some herbs, adjust lifestyle habits, and ensure your medical team is in the loop. Small steps, one day at a time.
