Cough due to Covid, making it difficult to sleep - #24340

My Doctor says I have covid. I get a lot of wet cough. Making it difficult to sleep well. I had fever, which is not there now . I am 53/Male. How to keep my immunity high? I occasionally get pain in my legs when I sit for long time.

Coping with a wet cough, especially after a Covid diagnosis, can be challenging. In Ayurveda, cough is often associated with imbalances in the Kapha dosha, leading to excessive mucus production. Implementing certain Ayurvedic practices can help soothe your cough and bolster immunity. Ginger tea is a good start; you can sip this warm beverage throughout the day. Prepare it by boiling fresh ginger in water for about 10 minutes and add a little honey once it’s cooled down a bit. Honey acts as a natural demulcent and helps soothe your throat. Ensure the tea is not too hot when the honey is added.

Boosting your immune system is key, especially during recovery. Amalaki (or Amla) is an excellent choice because it’s rich in Vitamin C and powerful antioxidants. You can consume it in powder or juice form daily. Ashwagandha can also be beneficial to support overall vitality and balance Vata dosha, particularly helpful if you notice joint or leg pain.

To improve sleep, try applying warm sesame oil to your head 30 minutes before bedtime. This head massage can promote relaxation and calm Vata. Practicing Pranayama, like Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing), before bed may help balance your doshas and promote better sleep.

Addressing your occasional leg pain, do gentle stretching; especially for your calves and thighs after sitting for prolonged periods. With the change in seasons and illnesses, dosha imbalances can manifest as muscle tension or pain. Including massage with Mahanarayana oil once a week can offer relief and foster circulation.

Maintaining your diet is also crucial. Favor warm, light, and easy-to-digest meals, like moong dal khichdi or vegetable soups, while avoiding cold, oily, or excessively spicy foods which can aggravate your symptoms.
