HELLO MANAS,

Excessive hairfall can be quite frustrating, but Ayurveda has some gentle and effective remedies that might help you. Jamal gota (also known as gotu kola or centella asiatica) is known for promoting hair growth and strengthening hair hair roots

1) QUANTITY OF JAMAL GOTA POWDER WITH MILK OR OIL -jamal gota powder= take about 2 tsp (around 5 gm) =coconut oil or cow milk= mix it well about 2-3 tbsp(45ml ) of either of coconut oil or fresh cow milk to make a smooth paste or oil infusion

If using coconut oil -warm the coconut oil slightly and add the Jamal gota powder to it -let it infuse by keeping it in warm place for a few hours or gently heating on low flame for 2-3 minutes (don’t boil) -cool and strain if needed before applying

If using cow milk -mix the powder directly in fresh milk to make a paste and apply

2) HOW OFTEN TO USE IT -apply the paste or oil mixture 2-3 times a week on your scalp -leave it on for 30-45 minutes before washing It off with milk herbal shampoo -consistency for at least 2-3 months is recommended to see noticeable results

3) USE ON SHAVED HEAD -yes, Jamal gota can be used on a shaved head. In fact, applying it on shaved scalp may allow better absorption and potentially faster benefits -ensure the scalp is clean before application and moisturise well afterward to avoid dryness

THIS WAS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU ASKED

Manas ji, I’ll explain this to you clearly because Jamal Gota (Croton tiglium) is not like common home remedies it’s actually a very strong purgative herb and, if not handled properly, can be harmful. In Ayurveda, it’s called Jayapala and is classified under “upavisha” (semi-poisonous herbs), meaning it must be used only after proper Shodhana (purification) and in very precise doses by a trained vaidya.

The oil inside Jamal Gota seeds is so strong that even a drop can cause severe purgation if taken internally, and if used externally without proper dilution, it can cause skin burns and blisters. This is why, in classical Ayurveda, it is usually processed and mixed in specific formulations for conditions like chronic constipation or certain skin diseases not for general hair use.

Quantity There is no universal “safe” home-use quantity for Jamal Gota powder because the raw form is unsafe. The medicinal dose after purification is in milligrams (a pinch or less), and even then, it is mixed with other substances to reduce toxicity.

Frequency It is never used frequently on the scalp in raw form. In classical texts, when used externally (for very specific scalp conditions), it is extremely diluted with oils like coconut oil or castor oil, and applied only for a very short time before being washed off. On shaved head Applying raw Jamal Gota paste or powder on a shaved scalp is risky it can cause burns, swelling, and skin peeling. Even if mixed with coconut oil or cow’s milk, if the ratio is wrong, it may harm the scalp more than help hair growth.

Ayurvedic safer alternative for scalp and hair regrowth

If your goal is to improve scalp health and promote hair growth, we can work with gentler, time-tested options:

Bhringraj Taila – Massage gently on scalp 3 times a week. Neelibhringadi Taila – Especially good for cooling the scalp and strengthening roots. Weekly warm oil massage followed by mild herbal shampoo (like shikakai) to keep follicles healthy. Internal support: Amla powder 1 tsp daily with warm water or milk for nourishment.

My suggestion – Please avoid self-use of Jamal Gota in raw form. If you are still keen, consult an experienced Ayurvedic physician who can purify and prepare it in the correct formulation for you. Hair growth is better approached through scalp nourishment, diet, and gentle herbal therapies rather than harsh irritants.

Warm regards, Dr. Karthika

It seems you’re asking about the use of “Jamal Gota” (Croton tiglium) with coconut oil or cow milk, and its potential use on the head.

I must strongly advise against using Jamal Gota. This plant is extremely toxic and its use can be very dangerous. It is classified as a purgative and is known to cause severe gastrointestinal distress, including vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. In high doses, it can be fatal.

The use of this plant is not recommended for self-administration, and its use in traditional medicine is highly regulated and requires expert supervision. The quantities you’re asking about are dangerous and can lead to serious health complications.

The claim that it can be used on a shaved head for better results is also highly questionable and should be avoided. Applying a toxic substance to your scalp could cause severe skin irritation, burns, and systemic toxicity.

Jamal gota, or Croton tiglium, is commonly used for its strong purgative properties, but it’s commonly not recommended for hair or scalp applications due to its highly irritant nature. Using jamal gota for hair requires extremely cautious and should only be done under strict professional supervison as its misuse can cause severe skin irritation or burns.

1) If considering its use, a highly diluted preparation must be cautiously approached. However, traditional sources do not specify exact quantities suitable for hair application, emphasizing instead the potential risks, highlighting the importance of direct consultation with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before application. Mixing it with a carrier like coconut oil or cow milk doesn’t eliminate these risks entirely.

2) Also, its should not be used frequently due to its harsh nature. Ayurvedic texts do not advocate routine external application. If you’re consulting a practitioner who agrees on its use, they would likely caution against frequent or repeated application.

3) Regarding use on a shaved head, there are no traditional texts or studies supporting improved results. In fact, without natural barriers like hair, the skin is more exposed, increasing the risk of irritation. Given the strong effects of jamal gota, other treatments are safer and often more effective for hair problems.

Exploring alternatives such as use of amla, bhringraj, or brahmi oil for hair health may be more beneficial. These herbs are well-documented in Ayurveda for promoting hair strength and reducing hair fall. Dietary considerations like balancing your doshas through suitable foods, maintaining scalp hygiene, and addressing any underlying nutritional deficiencies are prudent first-line approaches. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to create an individualized plan considering your specific hair care needs and health condition.

Jamal gota (Croton tiglium) is a strong purgative and not generally recommended for hair or scalp application due to its potent nature. It’s crucial to use this herb with caution, as it can cause skin irritation or other unwanted reactions if not used properly. Given its powerful effects, it is usually not advisable to apply jamal gota directly on the scalp, with or without coconut oil or milk, without professional guidance.

Instead, consider alternatives rooted in a holistic approach to hair health. Excessive hair fall can sometimes be linked to imbalances in the doshas, particularly the vata and pitta. Addressing these imbalances can help. Here are some steps you can consider:

1) Try applying Bhringraj oil, known for its nourishing and balancing effects on the scalp, once or twice a week. Gently massage it into your scalp, leave it for one hour, then wash with a mild herbal shampoo.

2) Incorporate a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like flaxseeds and walnuts, to support healthy hair growth. Ensure you are eating leafy greens, carrots, and amla regularly, as they help balance pitta dosha and strengthen the hair roots.

3) Practice stress-reduction techniques such as Pranayama or yoga to reduce anxiety, which often aggravates vata dosha.

4) Maintain good digestion (agni), as poor digestion can affect hair health. Consider taking Triphala at bedtime to support digestion and cleanse metabolic waste.

For direct scalp application such as shaving and applying specific herbs, professional supervision is recommended. Try not to experiment with powerful substances like jamal gota without guidance, as misuse can lead to adverse effects. If hair fall persists, consulting with a local Ayurvedic practitioner would be beneficial for personalized recommendations.
