I am really confused about my hair lately. Like, I never used to have issues, but now it feels so dry and frizzy all the time! A friend suggested I try some hair serum, but I’m not sure, you know? I mean, why to use hair serum in the first place? Last week, I went to the salon, and the stylist was saying that hair serum could help with my split ends and make my hair shiny again. But I’ve heard some things that make me wonder. Is it just another beauty fad or does it actually do good stuff? My hair is straight but somehow gets tangled so easily, and I’m tired of looking like a hot mess by noon! Also, if I start using hair serum, do I need to change my entire hair care routine? Like, should I still be using conditioner? I’ve tried a million products before, and nothing seems to really work. Oh, and are there specific ingredients I should look for in a serum? Or is it all pretty much the same? I'm kinda lost here, any advice on why to use hair serum would be really helpful!!!

Think of it like a protective shield for your hair: it’s usually a silicone-based product that coats the hair surface, smoothing down the cuticle and adding a protective layer against environmental damage—like pollution or heat styling.

For straight hair that tangles easily, serum can help detangle without weighing it down too much. This makes hair more manageable and leaves it looking shinier and healthier. The lightweight nature of most serums also means it’s quickly absorbed, so you won’t necessarily feel any greasy residue.

When it comes to split ends, while no product can fully repair them—cutting is usually needed—serum can temporarily smooth them, reducing their appearance and preventing further damage. It acts much like a band-aid until those pesky ends are trimmed.

Incorporating serum into your routine doesn’t mean overhauling everything. You can continue using a conditioner; just think of serum as the final touch. Apply it to damp hair after your shower, focusing on the ends and mid-lengths where damage often concentrates. Very sparing for the roots if you’re keen on avoiding any excess oiliness throughout the day.

Regarding ingredients, look for serums with natural oils like argan oil or jojoba oil, which can add moisture and shine. Keratin and proteins are also beneficial for strengthening.

Don’t worry about trying a million products; stick with routines that fit your lifestyle and hair’s unique needs. Be patient and allow time to gauge what works. Sometimes simple adjustments make familiar products more effective. Keep in mind, external application is just one aspect of hair care. Ensure that your diet, rich in healthy fats and vitamin E, supports your hair health from within.
