In Ayurveda, tinnitus and hearing loss can be attributed to imbalance in the Vata dosha, as Vata governs the function of hearing and the nervous system. A primary step in addressing this issue is to pacify the Vata dosha, concentrating on a more sattvic lifestyle, diet, and specific therapeutic practices.

Start with your diet. Consume warm, moist, and easily digestible foods. Incorporate healthy fats such as ghee or sesame oil, as these can lubricate the tissues and help in Vata balance. Avoid dry, cold, and light foods like crackers, raw vegetables, and cold beverages, known to aggravate Vata. A simple kichari (rice and lentil mix) with ghee can be a nourishing meal, taken once a day.

Nasyam, the Ayurvedic practice of administering medicated oil through the nostrils, can be beneficial. Use anu taila, applying 2-3 drops in each nostril in the morning on an empty stomach. Ensure you’re in a comfortable, relaxed position with your head slightly tilted back.

For tinnitus specifically, herbal formulations like Ashwagandha and Brahmi may help. These herbs are reputed to strengthen the nervous system and enhance auditory health. Consider taking Ashwagandha capsules, 500 mg twice daily post meals. Ensure the source is credible, and consult a practitioner for personalized dosing.

Daily routines should be supportive of calming Vata. Engage in gentle yoga or tai chi, prioritizing grounding and stability. Meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) like Nadi shodhana help in calming the mind and reducing stress, that often worsen tinnitus symptoms.

Avoid excessive screen time, loud noises, and caffeine, as these can exacerbate your symptoms. Create a soothing environment with light background music, perhaps sounds of nature to divert the mind from the ringing sensation in the ear.

If at any point, your condition worsens or other symptoms develop, seek immediate medical attention. Ayurveda works best as a complementary approach and more complex or progressive conditions require professional oversight. Always consults with an Ayurvedic physician to tailor these suggestions to your unique constitution and health status.
