Namaste, Vitiligo is a long-term skin condition where pigmentation changes gradually. Diet and lifestyle can play a supportive role, but it does not always need very strict restrictions in every case. About tomatoes: You can take tomatoes in cooked form in small quantity if they do not worsen your condition. Completely avoiding them is not always necessary unless you notice any reaction or increase in patches after eating. Avoid very sour, fermented, and incompatible food combinations (like milk with salty or sour foods). Simple measures that may help: Follow a balanced, simple diet with fresh and home-cooked food. Avoid junk food, excessive sour items, and processed foods. Maintain regular routine, proper sleep, and stress control. Take sun exposure in mild amounts, as advised. Vitiligo treatment takes time and consistency, so continue treatment patiently. Ayurvedic medicines sometimes used to support skin health include: Bakuchi (Psoralea) – traditionally used in vitiligo management. Khadirarishta – sometimes used to support skin purification. Consult me for more advice and suggestions on the above medicines.

Vitiligo (Shwitra) in Ayurveda is mainly related to Tridosha imbalance with involvement of Bhrajaka Pitta and Rakta dhatu. Diet discipline is important, but complete avoidance of every food is not always necessary. Regarding tomatoes: small amounts in well-cooked form in curries are generally acceptable, but raw tomatoes should be minimized because sour and incompatible foods may aggravate the condition in some patients. Focus on: Avoiding viruddha ahara (milk with sour foods, fish with milk, etc.) Limiting excess sour, fermented, and junk foods Maintaining good digestion. Along with diet, Ayurvedic medicines l Bakuchi 2-0-2-Khadirarishta 1-0-1 Bakuchi oil for apply and blood-purifying formulations are commonly used under supervision.

For a 15-year-old with vitiligo for 3 years (patches on chest, underarms, and recently face), Ayurveda usually considers it under Vitiligo / Shwitra. Management focuses on correcting Tridosha imbalance (especially Pitta + Kapha) and Rakta dushti (impure blood) along with external therapies. Your advice is mostly correct, but it can be explained more clearly for the patient. 1. Diet (Pathya–Apathya) Diet control is very important in vitiligo. Foods to avoid for some time: Milk with salty or sour foods (viruddha ahara) Fish and other non-veg foods Curd, paneer, cheese (especially at night) Excess sour foods: vinegar, pickles Junk food, packaged foods About tomatoes Cooked tomatoes in small amounts in curry are usually acceptable. Avoid raw tomatoes or excess tomato-based foods because their sour nature can aggravate Pitta and Rakta dushti. So small quantity cooked tomato is generally okay, but raw tomato or excessive use should be avoided. 2. Helpful Foods Encourage: Green vegetables (bottle gourd, ridge gourd, bitter gourd) Whole grains (millets, barley) Fruits like pomegranate, apple, papaya Neem leaves empty stomach 3. Ayurvedic Treatment Because 3 years duration is relatively long, proper Ayurvedic physician consultation is important. Treatment may include: Blood purification herbs External oils or pastes Controlled sun exposure therapy Bakuchi beej churna lepa with lemon Khadirarishta 15 ml plus equal water twice Mahamanjishthadi Kwath 15 ml plus eaqual water twice Arogyavardhini Vati 1-0-1 4. Lifestyle Advice Morning sunlight exposure (10–15 min if advised) Regular digestion (avoid constipation) Stress control Adequate sleep 5. Important Point Since new patches appeared on the face in the last 6 months, the disease may be active, so early proper treatment improves chances of repigmentation.

Yes, cooked tomatoes in small amounts (in curries, soups, dal etc.) are usually okay for most vitiligo patients ,as long as raw tomatoes, tomato sauce/ketchup and large quantities are strictly avoided. ✓Allowed: 1–2 small cooked tomatoes (or ¼–½ cup tomato in curry/dal) 2–3 times per week max — observe 2–3 weeks ✓Strictly avoid: raw tomato, cherry tomatoes, tomato chutney/sauce, large amounts, tomato-based gravies daily ✓If even small cooked tomato causes new spot, itching, or redness then stop completely (some are very sensitive) ✓Quick vitiligo-supportive tips (keep following these) Continue current Ayurveda (whatever your vaidya gave) – consistency is key Sun protection: SPF 50+ broad-spectrum sunscreen every 2–3 hours on exposed patches (face/neck/arms) Copper: drink water stored in copper vessel overnight (1 glass morning) Diet extras: black sesame seeds (1 tsp roasted daily), figs (2–3 soaked), pomegranate, beetroot juice (small glass) Avoid: all nightshades raw (tomato, brinjal, potato, capsicum, green chilli), fermented, sour, processed food Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

The condition you describe and the symptoms pointing towards the vitation of Pitta and imbalance in Rakt Mamsa and meda tissue Regarding your question for tomatoes they are generally considered amla or sour and burning in nature which can aggravate pitta and blood while cooked Tomatoes are slightly less reactive than raw one you should highly strictly avoid them entirely 1) Mahatiktakam Kwath- 15 ml + 45 ml lukewarm water twice daily 30 minutes before food 2) Khadirarishta- 20 ml with equal water twice daily after food 3) Manjishtadi Kwath Tablet- twice daily along with khadirarishta 2 tablets 4) Guggulutiktaka Ghritam- 1 tsp early morning on empty stomach 5) Bakuchi Oil- Apply on patches apply an exposed to mild sunlight for 10 minutes Avoid curd pickle Vinegar tamarind citrus fruit never mix milk with salt fish aur Sour fruits like shakes avoid tomato brinjal excessive green chilli red meet fish fermented food Include wheat Barley oats bitter gourd Lauki taroi green gram drinking water stored in copper vessel overnight Early morning sunlight for five to 10 minutes after applying the oil ensure seven to eight hour of sleep don’t use Harsh chemical soaps

Hello, Ayurvedic view -caused by imbalance of Pitta+ kapha dosha -Involves blood and skin -weak digestion and toxin accumulation play a key role Diet most important -fresh, warm, light spiced vegetarian food -bitter ad astringent tastes= neem , methi, karela -whole grains =barley, old rice -cow ghee small quantity -fruits= pomegranate, apple, figs Strictly Avoid incompatible foods -milk + sour foods -milk + fish very important -Curd especially at night -junk food, cold drinks, processed food -excess sour, salty, fermented foods About tomatoes your question -Raw tomato -> avoid (sour, increase pitta) -cooked tomato in small quantity-> generally acceptable SO :- occasional cooked tomato is okay, but keep minimal Internal medications 1) Khadirarishta= 15ml + equal water twice daily after meals 2)Mahamanjisthadi kashaya= 20ml+ equal water twice daily before meals 3) Arogyavardhini vati= 1 tab twice daily after meals 4) Gnadhak rasayana= 1 tab twice daily after meals 5) Bakuchi capsule= 1 cap in morning External therapy -Bakuchi oil application - with controlled sun exposure - Mild sun exposure= 5-10 mins daily morning only Lifestyle -Maintain regular routine -reduce stress important trigger even if unnoticed -Practice= pranayam (Anulom Vilom), yoga gentle, regular Key do’s and don’ts Do -eat on time -keep digestion strong -be consistent (results take months) Don’t -mix incompatible foods -expect quick results -frequently change treatments Prognosis -Age 15-> good recovery potential -Recent facial patches-> respond faster if treated early -Requires 6-12 months consistent effort Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you
