Can I continue cleansing my uterus during pregnancy to prevent miscarriage? - #51878

I have recently been told I have endometriosis. I just turned 35 and I started seeing a fertility specialist a few months ago. I have an appointment on April 2nd for a hysteroscopy since a saline sonogram showed lots of things ( possible polyp, scarring etc). On top of this I has told I have extremely few eggs left for my age than most other women do at my age. This was the ultimate reason for my infertility and miscarriage last year. I have begun delving deeply into Aryuveda and several months ago began taking tonics and herbs to help with this issue since my goal is to have another child before it’s too late. I have been having Angelica root, sharavari powder, Maca root, clover blossom every other day after it sits in hot water and I have started an aryuvedic pre conception cleanse. I am extremely concerned because I was supposed to have my period Thursday and I missed. 2 pregnancy tests showed I am positive for pregnancy. I am terrified because I had the miscarriage last year due to the unsafe environment for a baby to grow ( the fertility specialist said this, thus my reason for having the operation to clear the debris). So I’m afraid to have yet another miscarriage, but I’m surprised that I got pregnant and I contribute it to the changes that I started with the Aryuveda supplements. My question is, is there any way to continue tocleanse my uterus while still being pregnant so that the baby can successfully grow without miscarriage? Is there any way via Aryuveda this is possible? I am not sure if I should continue the cleanse I was taking or not since I am pregnant or if it’s just going to end in miscarriage anyways at 6weeks like it did last time. I’m sure the fertility specialist will say I just need to wait it out, but if there’s a way to continue to clear the fibroids/debris etc. while pregnant I would like this assistance so I do not miscarry.i Hope this was detailed enough, thank you so much.

From an Ayurvedic and clinical perspective, the most important principle is: Once pregnancy is confirmed, any “cleansing / detox / uterine scraping” type therapy should be stopped. Why cleansing should NOT be done during pregnancy In Ayurveda, pregnancy is a “Garbhavastha – a delicate state” where the goal is Garbha-sthāpana (stabilizing the embryo), not Shodhana (cleansing). Procedures or herbs that clean the uterus, remove debris, stimulate menstruation, or increase uterine contractions can increase the risk of miscarriage. Examples of things that are usually avoided after conception: Strong detox herbsUterine stimulants Panchakarma detox Herbs with Lekhana Shodhana / Artava-janana action About the herbs mentioned Some of the herbs in the description may not be appropriate during pregnancy Angelica root (Dong Quai) can stimulate uterus Maca root hormonal effect (generally avoided in early pregnancy) Cleansing formulas contraindicated Shatavari, however, is usually considered garbha-poshak (nourishing for pregnancy) when used properly. Ayurvedic approach during pregnancy Instead of cleansing, Ayurveda recommends Garbha-poshana (nourishing the fetus). Common supportive options Herbs Shatavari Phala Ghrita Diet Warm milk with ghee Shatavari kalpa Rice, moong dal, ghee Avoid very spicy, sour, or detox diets Lifestyle Stress reduction Adequate sleep Avoid heavy exercise and travel in early pregnancy Important point for miscarriage history Garbha Sthapana Chikitsa Phala Ghrita Shatavari preparations Milk + ghee based diet Practical: Stop the cleansing protocol immediately. Continue only pregnancy-safe nourishing Pregnancy is not the time for uterine cleansing it is the time for nourishment and stabilization of the fetus. more information consult personal consultion

Hello Firstly congratulations for your preganacy 😊🧿 I can understand your situation as yoh have being through previous miscarriages along with endometriosis and reduced ovarian reserve Taking utmost care during this phase is very cruicial But dont worry I will guide you in the best way AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING -See this phase in ayurveda is called as Gabini avastha -Ayurveda has explained all dos and dont during this phase which we called as Garbhini paricharya This phase should focus on -Noruishment -Strengthening -Stability of fetus This 3 months are very crucial and you should be careful about smallest to smallest thing In this phase cleansing THERAPIES need to be srictly avoided SHOULD YOU CONTINUE THE CURRENT HERBS The medicines you mentioned is commonly taken before conception but once pregnancy is confirmed it is better to avoud them Angelica root -This may stimulate uterus so it should be avoided Maca root -This is safe before conception but after it should be avoided Red clover blossom-it may cause hormonal effect better to avoid Shatavari- In some cases it is safe but start under supervision of Ayurvedic gynecologist As per my opinion- Its better to stop the cleansing and to consult ayurvedic gynecologist before starting any ayuvedic herbs AYURVEDIC REGIMEN IN THIS PHASE In this phase we should focus on nourishing and strengthning -support healthy implantation and progression of preganancy -Strengthening the reproductive tract -Providing nutritional support to the fetus and mother GENTLE SUPPORTIVE MEASURE FOR THIS PHASE -have only warmly fresh foods -Have milk with small amount of ghee -Include whole grains, millets -Soaked almonds daily LIFESTYLE -Have adequate rest -Good 7-8 hours sound sleep -Practice yoga and pranayama Have regular follow up with your gynecologist At this stage what important is the nourishing and strengthning not cleansing Wishing you a safe healthy PREGENACY journey 😊 Warm Regards Dr Snehal vidhate

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. It is completely natural to feel both hopeful and anxious, especially after a previous miscarriage and with the diagnosis of endometriosis. Your concern for creating the best environment for your baby is very understandable. 🤍 From an Ayurvedic perspective, once conception has occurred, cleansing (detoxification) therapies are not recommended. Cleansing procedures and herbs are generally used before conception to prepare the body and improve reproductive health. Their goal is to purify the body so that healthy eggs and a healthy uterine environment can develop. Now that you are pregnant, the focus of care changes completely. 1. Shift from Cleansing to Nourishment After conception, Ayurveda emphasizes Sthapana (stabilizing the pregnancy) and Poshana (nourishing the mother and fetus). The goal is to support implantation, maintain a stable pregnancy, and provide proper nutrition for the growing baby. Because of this: Stop the cleansing regimen and herbal detox supplements you were taking. Some herbs such as strong cleansing or stimulating herbs may not be appropriate during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed. 2. Focus on Digestion and Nutrition Healthy digestion (Agni) is considered very important during pregnancy because it supports proper nourishment of the fetus. General principles include: Eat warm, freshly prepared, easily digestible foods. Include nourishing foods like milk (if tolerated), ghee in small amounts, cooked grains, moong dal, well-cooked vegetables, and seasonal fruits. Eat small, regular meals instead of heavy meals. Avoid fasting, harsh detox diets, or strong herbal mixtures. 3. Follow Garbhini Paricharya (Ayurvedic Pregnancy Care) Ayurveda has a specialized pregnancy care system called Garbhini Paricharya, which includes: Month-wise diet recommendations Gentle lifestyle practices Herbs that help support and stabilize pregnancy These recommendations are different for each trimester, so they should be guided by a qualified practitioner. 4. Consult a Qualified Ayurvedic Gynecologist Because you have: Endometriosis A history of miscarriage Fertility treatments and uterine findings it is very important to consult a qualified Ayurvedic gynecologist who can guide you safely through pregnancy care. They can suggest appropriate diet, lifestyle, and mild supportive formulations that are safe in pregnancy. 5. Understanding the Ayurvedic Approach In Ayurveda the reproductive journey is seen in three phases: Before conception – cleansing and preparing the body to produce healthy eggs and sperm. During pregnancy – stabilizing and nourishing the fetus (no cleansing). After delivery – postpartum healing and restoration of the mother’s body. Since you are now pregnant, the focus should be supporting and sustaining the pregnancy, not cleansing the uterus.

You are in a very sensitive and important phase right now and the first thing you need to understand is that once pregnancy is confirmed the body naturally shifts into a nourishing and holding state and not a cleansing state so any form of uterine cleansing detox or scraping approach at this time can disturb implantation and increase the risk of miscarriage so please stop any preconception cleanse or detox you were following immediately The herbs you mentioned need careful consideration Shatavari can be continued in a small dose with milk as it supports the uterus and hormonal balance but Angelica root Maca root and clover blossom should be stopped as they can have hormonal or uterine stimulating effects which are not safe during early pregnancy In your case the focus should now shift towards garbha sthapana which means supporting and stabilizing the pregnancy rather than trying to cleanse the uterus your body has already shown a positive response by conceiving again which is a good sign now the aim is to create a calm nourished and stable internal environment Follow a simple warm and easy to digest diet include milk with a little ghee rice moong dal soft cooked vegetables and avoid raw cold spicy fermented and heavy food do not fast do not take any detox drinks maintain good hydration Physical and mental rest is very important avoid travel heavy work and exertion take adequate sleep keep your mind calm as much as possible as stress can affect early pregnancy stability You should also continue close follow up with your fertility specialist for hormonal support like progesterone if required and early monitoring this combination of modern care and gentle ayurvedic support will give the best chance for a healthy pregnancy Right now do not try to correct everything inside the uterus trust the body and support it gently this phase is about holding nourishing and protecting the pregnancy not cleansing

Congratulations on your positive pregnancy test. Once pregnancy occurs, it is not recommended to continue any uterine “cleansing” or detox treatments, including most herbal cleanses, because they can stimulate the uterus and increase the risk of miscarriage. I would advise stopping the cleanse and herbal regimen for now and contacting your fertility specialist as soon as possible so they can monitor the pregnancy early. An Ayurvedic practitioner trained in pregnancy care may later recommend gentle, pregnancy-safe supportive therapies, but cleansing treatments should not be done during pregnancy.

HELLO, IMMEDIATE ACTION STOP CURRENT REGIMEN You must stop your current cleansing protocol immediately -ANGELICA ROOT= this is known uterine stimulant and emmenagogue (promotes menstrual flow). It is contraindicated in pregnancy as it can stimulate contractions and cause miscarriage -CLOVER BLOSSOM= Contains coumarin derivates, which can act as blood thinners and also have estrogenicc effects safety in early pregnancy is not established -MACCA ROOTS= while generally considered a nutrient, its hormonal effects are not fully studied in pregnancy. It is safer to avoid until after the first trimester -SHATAVARI= this is generally considered safe and is a classic pregnancy tonic , but the dosage and combination matter THE CHEANSE= In ayurveda , panchakarma are strictly avoided during pregnancy . The focus shifts from cleansing to nourishing and stabilizing In Ayurveda, your condition can be understood as 1) ARTAVA KSHAYA= Low ovarian reserve= related to depletion of rasa (nutrient plasma) and artava dhatu (reproductive tissue) 2) THREATENED MISCARRIAGE= Your history and current fear indiacate a need of stabilizing the pregnancy 3) VATA PITTA IMBALACE= endometriosi and uterine debris often indicate vitiated vata (causing Pain, irregularity) and pitta (causing inflammation, scarring) AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT FOR HIGH RISK EARLY PREGNANCY DIET- FOCUS= nourishing, warm, easily digestible foods to build immunity/vitality and support the growing foetus without creating toxins WHAT TO EAT -MILK AND GHEE= warm cow’s milk with a pinch of cardamom and 1 tsp of Ghee at night. Ghee Is a carrier for herbs ad nourishes the reproductive tissues -GRAINS= cooked basmati rice, moong dal soup. This is light and easy to digest -FRUITS= Sweet, ripe fruits like mangoes, pear, and pomegranate. Pomegranate is considered uterine tonic AVOID -Spicy, oily, fermented foods increases pitta -dry ,cold, or leftover foods- increases vata -caffeine and carbonated drink LIFESTYLE -REST= you are in the implantation and placentation phase. Physical rest is crucial avoid heavy lifting, excessive walking or sex until pregnancy is stable -SELF MASSAGE= daily gentle massage with sesame oil if you tend to be cold or dry OR Coconut oil if you tend to be hot irritated. This calms vata ad improvs circulation to the uterus. Do not massage the lower back or abdomen hard if you have cramps/ spotting PRANAYAM= gentle breathing exercises. sheetali or sheetkari can help control anxiety and mild pitta imbalances INTERNAL MEDICATIONS 1) SHATAVARI CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm milk twice daily =premier garbhini rasayana. It nourishes shukra dhatu (reproductive fluid), promotes progesterone balace, and helps build a healthy endometrial lining. It supports lactation preparation 2) GOKSHURA CHURNA= 3gm with milk twice daily after meals =it is a rejuvenative for the reproductive system and provides strength during pregnancy 3) ASHWAGANDHA CHURNA = 1/2 tsp with warm milk at night =it is strength promoter. It helps combat the stress and fatigue of early preganancy and supports the adrenals. 4) LODHRASAVA= 20ml + equal water twice dialy after meals =specifically for uterine health . It is astringent and helps tone the uterine tissues -STOP the cleansing herbs imemdiately -CONTACT your fertility specialist (for the April 2nd hysterectomy). CRUCIAL =inform them you are pregnant. The planned surgery will likely be pospostend , but they need to monitor you for an ectopic pregnancy or other complications -SHIFT your mindset from cleaning to nourishing and stabilising Your pregnancy is a gift. The goal now is to protect it, not to cleanse the environment aggresively. The body knowns how to handle the debris if it is well nourished ad supported DO FOLLOW HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL THANK YOU

Namaste, First, congratulations on your pregnancy. At this stage, the priority is to protect and support the pregnancy, not cleansing. In Ayurveda, cleansing or detox (shodhana) is not advised during pregnancy, as it can disturb the body and may increase the risk of complications. Simple guidance for now: Do not continue any cleansing or detox practices during pregnancy. Be cautious with herbs like Angelica, strong formulations, or combinations, as some may not be safe in pregnancy. Focus on nourishing, stable, and gentle care for the body. Take regular follow-up with your gynecologist/fertility specialist, especially considering your past history. Eat warm, simple, and nutritious food and maintain proper rest. Your pregnancy happening now is a positive sign, and the body needs support and stability, not cleansing. Ayurvedic support in pregnancy is usually mild and only under supervision, and may include: Shatavari – traditionally used to support female reproductive health. Phala Ghrita – sometimes used in supervised care to support pregnancy. Do not start or continue any medicines without proper medical guidance at this stage. Consult me for more advice and suggestions on the above medicines.

All cleansing herbs and uterine stimulating substances like Angelica and clover should be discontinued immediately Maca root also is not advisable in early pregnancy Shatavari in a properly regulated small dose is considered supportive as it helps in maintaining uterine nourishment and hormonal balance The body has already accepted conception which indicates that despite endometriosis and reduced ovarian reserve there is functional capacity in the reproductive system This pregnancy should be supported with a focus on stability and nourishment rather than attempting to correct structural concerns at this stage Diet should remain warm soft and easily digestible with inclusion of ghee to support implantation and reduce Vata Light milk preparations if suitable can be continued Physical and mental rest is essential as excessive movement stress or strain can aggravate Vata and create instability in early pregnancy
