Hi Shilpi,

Can you tell me if you experience any pain or pressure in the forehead or around the nose area, especially when changing positions or after eating? Do you also face fatigue or difficulty sleeping due to nasal congestion?

In Ayurveda, your symptoms may be related to an imbalance in Kapha dosha, which can lead to sinus congestion and weight gain. To help with sinusitis, Anu Taila or Nasya with Sesame oil can be used to clear the nasal passages. For congestion in the chest, steam inhalation with Eucalyptus or Tulsi can provide relief. Triphala or Trikatu can help with digestion and weight loss. A Pitta-pacifying and Kapha-reducing diet, along with regular breathing exercises like Pranayama, will help improve lung function and promote weight loss.

It sounds like you’re grappling with quite a mix of concerns, with sinusitis leading the charge. Sinusitis in Ayurveda often relates to Kapha imbalance—when aggravated, Kapha leads to excess mucus production and congestion. To tackle this, you should start by reducing Kapha-generating foods from your diet. This means cutting back on dairy, sweets, and oily foods. Instead, focus on light, warm, and dry foods. Ginger tea is a simple and effective remedy; a cup in the morning can help stimulate Agni (digestive fire) and break down congestion.

When it comes to nasal congestion, nasya therapy could be beneficial. It’s a practice of applying medicated oils or herbs through the nostrils, which can help clear the channels in your head. Anu taila is a classical Ayurvedic preparation you might consider. However, it’s always best to consult with an Ayurveda practitioner in person for personalized guidance.

You mentioned bad breath, which could be linked to Ama (toxins) in the body. Enhancing digestion is crucial. Consider drinking warm water throughout the day with freshly squeezed lemon. Also, consume a teaspoon of triphala powder with warm water before bed. This can aid digestion and cleanse your system over time.

As for your breathing issue, try Pranayama exercises like Anulom Vilom, which involves alternate nostril breathing. But start slowly, and if you feel any discomfort, cease practice until further assessment by a professional. Regarding weight, exercise is key. Aim for regular activity, like brisk walking for 30 minutes a day. It’s essential to pick something you enjoy so you’re consistent.

Remember, managing stress with practices like yoga or meditation can have a positive impact on all these symptoms, including weight. But, do communicate with an Ayurvedic practitioner or medical doctor, they can provide insights tailored specifically for you. If none of these helps, especially if breathing becomes more challenging, seek immediate medical attention.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
