How to stop postnasal drip and chroni bad breath - #22040

I brush twice a day and also do tongue cleaning. But facing chronic badbreath for 4 years with postnasal dripping. Please suggest life style and Ayurveda medicine for this issue. I have already consulting with doctor but she is on maternity leave

Chronic bad breath along with postnasal drip often indicates an underlying imbalance in the body, often related to Kapha dosha. The excess mucous production from postnasal drip, when persistent, can lead to accumulation of toxins or “ama” which is usually the root cause of bad breath.

Firstly, I suggest starting with your diet. Reducing heavy, greasy, and mucous-forming foods such as dairy, fried foods, and sugars could help. Incorporate more spices like ginger, pepper, and cumin, which can help balance Kapha and also improve digestion by enhancing the digestive fire, or “agni.”

Stay hydrated, but avoid cold water—opt for warm water with a slice of ginger or lemon. This will aid in keeping the mucous thin and less sticky, thereby clearing nasal passages.

Practicing Pranayama, especially Kapalabhati, can be beneficial for clearing sinuses and enhancing respiratory health. Try doing this breathing exercise every morning for a few minutes.

Consider Neti (nasal irrigation) using a saline solution to effectively clear mucus and reduce postnasal drip. It should be done with proper guidance to avoid complications.

For herbal remedies, Triphala at bedtime can improve digestion. You might consider Sitopaladi Churna as it’s known for respiratory health, but do consult with a local Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any herbs.

Gargling with warm water mixed with a pinch of rock salt and turmeric several times daily can be a great way to tackle bad breath, especially before bedtime.

Try to maintain a regular, consistent sleep pattern and avoid taking naps during the day. This assists with metabolic activities and reduces Kapha imbalances.

Finally, dry ginger powder with honey is a known remedy for reducing mucus, take half teaspoon of ginger powder with honey twice a day. Remember to follow these routines consistently as balance in health takes time. Continue to monitor your symptoms and consult a health care provider for persistant or worsening conditions.
