Increasing facial hair growth, especially in middle age, is a bit of a challenge influenced by multiple factors, with genetics playing a big part. Ayurveda doesn’t have a magic bullet for massive hair growth, but we do focus on nourishing the body and balancing your doshas, mainly Vata and Pitta, to support optimal hair growth.
Your genetics largely determine how much facial hair you have. Some of us have hairy genes, and for others, it’s sparser. It’s just how we’re wired. But still, there are a few things you can try.
Physical activity might not directly boost hair growth, but it does get your blood pumping, including to the hair follicles, and anything that keeps your body and hormones in balance is a win. Exercise also reduces stress, which can sometimes mess with hair growth.
The sun? Well, spending hours under the sun may increase vitamin D levels, which is essential for our health in general, but baking your face probably won’t put you on the fast track to a beard. Just watch out for sunburns.
About vitamins, especially biotin and vitamin E could play a role, though sticking to a nutritious diet might do more good than a plain old supplement. Foods like nuts, fish, and seeds are good choices.
Now, let’s chat about foods. Ayurvedically, focus on nourishing Sapta Dhatus (the seven tissues) which includes Rakta dhatu (blood) using foods like leafy greens, Ghee, nuts, and seeds. Amalaki (Indian gooseberry) and Bhringraj are often recommended for hair health, try a simple amla oil massage.
Finally, maintaining a routine where you sleep well, eat a balanced diet, and keep stress levels in check is pretty crucial. Consider a daily scalp massage with sesame or castor oil as these oils are believed to balance Vata dosha.
All in all, patience is key. Nature’s plan usually doesn’t involve quick fixes, especially with hair.
