Dear Christian,
I’m sorry to hear about your peroneal nerve injury resulting in foot drop. The peroneal nerve, a branch of the sciatic nerve, controls the muscles responsible for lifting the foot. Damage to this nerve can impair dorsiflexion, leading to foot drop

Since the issue is very chronic, Ayurveda can offer supportive care to aid nerve healing, reduce pain, and improve mobility. Along with physical therapy, Ayurvedic medicines can enhance nerve regeneration and manage associated discomfort. Here are some recommended options:
1. Ayurvedic Medicines: Cap Palsinuron: 1 capsule with warm milk twice daily – supports nerve regeneration and reduces stress. Brahmi Vati (Bacopa monnieri): 1 tablet twice a day with water – improves nerve function and memory. Yograj Guggulu: 2 tablets twice daily after meals – helps in pain management and reduces inflammation. Dashmool Kwath: 20 ml twice a day with warm water – strengthens nerves and relieves pain. Maharasnadi Kwath: 20 ml twice daily – effective in reducing nerve pain and muscle stiffness. 2. External Applications:
Mahanarayan Oil: Warm oil massage over the affected leg twice a day – enhances circulation and relieves pain. Dhanwantharam Oil: Useful for nerve damage and muscle weakness; apply before a warm water bath. Ksheerabala Oil: Can be used for gentle massage or as a medicated enema (Basti) under medical supervision to nourish nerves. 3. Additional Therapies:
Pizhichil: Medicated oil therapy to rejuvenate nerves (best done at an Ayurvedic center). Abhyanga and Swedana: Daily oil massage followed by herbal steam therapy to relax muscles and promote nerve healing. I am not sure if these services are accessible to you.
4. Dietary Support:
Consume foods rich in vitamin B12 (fortified cereals, plant-based supplements) and omega-3 fatty acids (flaxseeds, walnuts). Add ghee and warm milk to your diet to support nerve tissue. Avoid cold, oily, and processed foods that may aggravate Vata dosha. These remedies can be continued for 3-6 months with regular monitoring. It’s best to consult with an Ayurvedic Doctor closely for personalized treatment and dosage adjustments along with monitoring.
Hi Christian,
I’m sorry to hear about the footdrop and nerve damage you’re experiencing. To help with the healing process, I’d first ask:
1. Have you had any physical therapy or rehabilitation for your footdrop since the injury? 2. Do you experience any numbness or tingling sensations along with the weakness in your foot?
In Ayurveda, to support nerve regeneration, we would focus on improving circulation and reducing inflammation. Herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Turmeric are known for their nerve-healing properties. Additionally, practices like Abhyanga (oil massage with warm herbal oils) and Shirodhara (oil therapy) can help promote healing and reduce nerve damage. A holistic approach, including strengthening exercises and a balanced diet, is crucial for nerve recovery.
Yes I have done several physical therapy and no results and there is numbness in the foot.
Hello What all treatments were you followed in the past years. Are u facing any lifestype disorders,…
Have you done any foot massage earlier. If not advising KHAJITHA PINDA THAILA for external application over foot and massage,
That is the only disorder am having, I have been doing foot massage for a long time, still no improvement
Oh gosh, I’m really sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. Footdrop can be quite challenging, and since you mentioned the injury was caused by an injection, it can be tough, but let me share some Ayurvedic approaches that could help rejuvenate your nerve.
First things first, from an Ayurvedic point of view, we wanna focus on Vata dosha here. Nerve issues like these often indicate vitiation in Vata. So, grounding and soothing Vata should be one of the first steps.
In terms of diet, include warm, moist, and easily digestible foods. Ghee is fantastic for Vata, so use it in your cooking, maybe like a teaspoon daily, becareful tho if cholesterol is a concern. Also, add bananas, cooked carrots, and sweet potatoes – they’re grounding n nourishing.
As for herbs, Ashwagandha is a superstar when it comes to nerve rejuvenation. You could take it in powder form with warm milk before bed, say half a teaspoon. It strengthens tissues, helps with stress, which is often a big part of healing nerve issues. But if ya have any milk intolerance, go with water.
Abhyanga, or oil massage, particularly with Mahanarayan oil, could be really helpful. Warm a little bit of the oil and gently massage the leg daily, preferably in the morning. This improves circulation and helps regulate Vata.
Practicing yoga asanas focusing on strengthening legs and promoting blood flow might help too. Poses like Tree Pose (Vriksasana), Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana), always listening to your body and being careful not to strain anything.
Definitely get in touch with a healthcare provider or consult an ayurvedic practitioner too. They can tailor treatments specifically for you. Sometimes integrating physiotherapy with Ayurveda can lead to wonderful outcomes.
Life-style wise, keep stress at bay as much as possible. Meditation, and pranayama, especially Nadi Shodhana, are helpful for both balancing Vata and calming the nerves. I hope these suggestions help, but do keep monitoring and check back with your healthcare provider regularly.
