Certainly, managing glaucoma through Ayurveda can be a supportive approach alongside conventional treatments, especially when addressing overall well-being with your conditions. It's crucial, however, to continue allopathic treatment and regular monitoring by an ophthalmologist since glaucoma is a serious condition requiring professional oversight. In Ayurveda, the emphasis would be on reducing strain on the eyes and balancing your body's energies (doshas) with a focus on Pitta dosha, which is often linked to eye disorders. Start with dietary changes—incorporate a Pitta-pacifying diet including foods like cooling fruits (like pears and melons), green leafy vegetables, and plenty of hydration with water and herbal teas such as coriander or fennel tea. Avoid spicy, heavy, and fried foods, as well as reducing intake of caffeine and refined sugars which can aggravate Pitta and Vata dosha. Practicing regular eye exercises can help, as they relieve strain and improve circulation. Simpal exercise like palming—rubbing your hands together to create warmth and then gently covering your closed eyes without pressing—can be done several times a day. Stress management is key, particularly since you have both diabetes and hypertension. Incorporate meditation and breathing exercises like Anulom Vilom and Nadi Shodhana Pranayama to help manage stress levels. These practices calm the mind and balance doshas. Triphala Ghrita is an Ayurvedic formulation beneficial for eye health, but before using any Ayurvedic herbal preparations like this, consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner or your healthcare provider to make sure it’s appropriate given your other medical conditions. Limit screen time and follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds, to reduce digital eye strain. Prioritize a full night's sleep, which is essential for pressure regulation. Ayurvedic treatment can offer supportive care, but always prioritize regular checkups and medical advice from your primary healthcare provider to keep glaucoma and its challenges firmly in control.
