Chronic constipation for 10 years, even with a diet high in fruits and vegetables, suggests a deeper issue, possibly related to slow digestion or an imbalance in Vata dosha (which governs movement). Here are some Ayurvedic remedies and lifestyle changes that may help: Ayurvedic Remedies: Triphala: A gentle natural laxative that promotes regular bowel movements. Take 1-2 teaspoons before bed with warm water. Isabgol (Psyllium husk): Helps soften stool. Take 1-2 teaspoons in warm water before bed. Ajwain: Stimulates digestion and relieves constipation. Chew ½ teaspoon with a pinch of rock salt before meals. Ghee: Helps lubricate the intestines. Add 1-2 teaspoons of ghee to meals daily. Dietary Suggestions: Include more healthy fats (like olive oil, ghee). Drink warm water or herbal teas (ginger, fennel) to aid digestion. Soak prunes or dates overnight and consume in the morning for a natural laxative effect. Lifestyle Adjustments: Abhyanga (oil massage) on the abdomen can help improve digestion. Pranayama (breathing exercises) like Kapalbhati can stimulate digestion. Gentle yoga poses like Pawanmuktasana (wind-relieving pose) help relieve constipation. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to soften stools. Consult a Doctor: If constipation persists with severe symptoms, consult a healthcare provider to rule out underlying issues like intestinal blockages or hypothyroidism. This combined approach can help improve digestion and relieve constipation over time.

Constipation can definitely be a frustrating experience, especially when it feels like you're doing things "right" but still dealing with discomfort. It sounds like you're seeking a holistic approach, so let's dig into some Ayurvedic insights that might help your mom out. Constipation often stems from a Vata dosha imbalance. Vata, which governs movement in the body, when disrupted can make things sluggish. Even if she eats fruits and vegetables, other factors, like stress, lack of routine or even dehydration, might be affecting her. Warm, cooked foods might be more beneficial than raw veggies and fruit in her case. Cooking helps make these foods more digestible and calming for Vata. Encourage her to drink warm water throughout the day, it's simple but can promote a good flow. Try adding ghee to her meals, like a spoonful mixed into warm rice or on toast. It acts as a lubricant for the intestines and helps in easing stools. Triphala, an Ayurvedic herb blend, is another great option. It's known for supporting digestion gently and can be taken at bedtime, in warm water — just a teaspoon should be enough. Creating a regular routine around meals and sleep can also help balance Vata. Massaging her abdomen gently in a clockwise motion with warm sesame oil can stimulate peristalsis. Mild exercise such as walking or yoga is beneficial too, as it helps stimulate the digestive system. If things don't improve or get worse, it's always best to check in with a healthcare professional to make sure there’s not something more serious going on. Ten years is a long time to deal with this, and professional guidance alongside these ayurvedic nudges might give her some much-needed relief. Keep a close eye on the symptoms, alright?
