Doctors’ responses

For NMO (Neuromyelitis Optica) management, you're already on azathioprine, which probably helping to prevent further attacks. Ayurveda can harmoniously complement your allopathic treatment, but I'm going to be real with you: don't just quit your current meds. Always like consult your neurologist before making changes. In Ayurveda, the focus is on balancing the doshas and strengthening Ojas, which is the essence of immunity. But, hey, here's a few suggestions that might help while you continue your prescribed treatment. For diet, warm and easily digestible foods are key. Avoid excess of cold, oily or processed foods as they might disturb digestion (agni). Turmeric is great, maybe add it to your food or have turmeric milk at night. Add ginger tea to your routine; it's both soothing and good for digestion. Take a look at your daily routine too – incorporating Abhyanga, which is self-massage with warm sesame oil, can be grounding and beneficial for the nervous system. Regarding herbal supplements, Ashwagandha might be helpful as it has nerve-calming properties. Similarly, Guduchi can be considered for its immune-modulating abilities. Consider Brahmi for its mental and nervous system health support. Remember, though, these herbs gotta be used carefully and individualized—consult an Ayurvedic practitioner who knows your constitution well. When using any herbs, ensure they’re from reputable sources to avoid contamination risks. Managing stress is another important piece. Mindfulness practices, such as slow-paced yoga (focus on restorative poses), deep breathing, or meditation, can be very helpful. They provide not just relaxation but enhance mental clarity and emotional balance. In Ayurveda, patience is virtue. These processes take time; healing doesn’t happen overnight. Keep track of your body's response, and keep in regular touch with both your allopathic doctor and an Ayurvedic practitioner. Balancing life, food and mind makes a big difference. And, always prioritize safety. If symptoms change rapidly, always get that check with your doc.
