Doctors' responses

Experiencing severe hair fall along with constant itching can be indicators of a dosha imbalance, most likely involving aggravated Pitta or Vata doshas impacting the hair and scalp. This may lead to conditions like dandruff, scalp inflammation, or alopecia. Addressing the root cause is essential for effective treatment.

The first step is identifying any diet or lifestyle factors potentially aggravating Pitta or Vata. Reduce the intake of spicy, oily, and processed foods, as they can intensify Pitta. Instead, favor a diet rich in cooling and nourishing foods like coconut water, cucumbers, and leafy greens. Adequate hydration is vital, so drink plenty of water and herbal teas like chamomile or hibiscus.

For external hair care, choose a natural shampoo with mild herbal ingredients such as Amla (Indian gooseberry), Bhringraj, and Shikakai. These herbs strengthen hair follicles and improve scalp health. Avoid shampoos with harsh chemicals or parabens as they may worsen the condition. A weekly scalp massage with warm (not hot) coconut oil or sesame oil infused with Brahmi or Neem can help reduce dandruff and support blood circulation to the hair roots. Allow the oil to penetrate the scalp for a couple of hours before washing it out.

Medication wise, consider Ayurvedic formulations like Bhringraj tablets or Triphala Churna to maintain internal balance. Consult a qualified Ayurvedic physician to tailor these remedies to your specific needs. Additionally, managing stress through regular practice of Pranayama or gentle yoga can contribute positively to hair health by maintaining a balanced mind-body state.

If your symptoms persist despite these measures, it’s advisable to seek medical evaluation to exclude other underlying conditions. Prompt diagnosis and treatment ensure best outcomes.

Hair fall, especially when coupled with itching and thinning along the forehead, can be quite distressing. It often indicates an imbalance in your doshas, particularly pitta. Let’s start by addressing the root causes through Siddha-Ayurvedic principles.

Diet plays a vital role. Begin with incorporating more cooling, hydrating foods to pacify pitta. This can include consuming more ghee, coconut water, and fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. Avoid spicy, fried foods and excessive caffeine as they might aggravate pitta, leading to more hair fall and itching.

A simple yet effective home remedy involves massaging your scalp with bhringraj oil. Massage gently, ideally before bed, so you let the oil soak in overnight. It’s believed to strengthen the hair roots and calm the scalp. Argan or coconut oil can also be helpful if bhringraj isn’t available.

Use a mild shampoo that’s free from harsh chemicals. Look for one that’s herbal, containing ingredients such as aloe vera, hibiscus, or amla. Avoid overly scented products and those with sulfates or parabens.

For internal support, you might consider taking Indian gooseberry (amla) powder daily. A teaspoon mixed in lukewarm water, taken once a day, can help nourish the hair from within.

Maintain head hygiene since residue build-up can worsen itching. Wash your hair every 2-3 days, or more frequently, depending on your activity level and scalp oiliness.

However, if these symptoms persist or worsen, consult a Siddha-Ayurvedic specialist or dermatologist to explore further treatment. Persistent scalp issues can sometimes indicate underlying problems that need targeted intervention. Prioritizing safety and taking professional guidance is key when conventional measures do not provide relief.
