Gaining 20 kgs in a year and experiencing hair fall can be distressing. Multiple factors could be contributing including lifestyle, diet, and possibly a dosha imbalance. Working night shifts can disrupt the natural circadian rhythms, impacting metabolism and hormone function. Let’s explore some steps grounded in Ayurveda that might help.

First, consider your dosha - Vata, Pitta, or Kapha could be out of balance, contributing to the symptoms. Losing hair often relates to Pitta imbalance, while weight gain signals a Kapha imbalance. Implementing changes catering to these can bring harmony. For the diet, even if its limited, focus on nutritious meals - more whole grains like quinoa, barley, and brown rice. Include more leafy green vegetables and fruits like apple and pear. Healthy fats from almonds and seeds like flax or chia can be incorporated.

With a night shift it becomes crucial to prioritize sleep hygiene. Have a consistent sleep schedule even on days off. The ritual of winding down, perhaps with a warm water shower or a cup of herbal tea helps in improving sleep quality.

Exercise is another important aspect, but don’t overdo it - gentle yoga or walking for 30 minutes 4-5 times a week may support healthy metabolism and digestion. A self-abhyanga (oil massage) with sesame or coconut oil can be nurturing for both weight and hair.

Hydration cannot be overstated - water or herbal teas can reduce toxins. Avoid too cold or overly chilled drinks, they slow ‘agni’ digestion.

Stress management can support your efforts. 5-10 minutes of meditation daily, helps tackle stress levels which might, otherwise, affect weight and hair.

If possible, consult a local Ayurvedic practitioner who can assess your dosha and prescribe herbs that target your specific needs. Before making any herbal treatments part of your regimen, speak to your healthcare provider especially considering night shifts and weight.

Certainly, the weight gain and hair fall you’re experiencing could be tied to multiple factors, such as lifestyle changes, stress, or possibly a doshic imbalance, particularly of kapha and vata. Let’s address your concerns from a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective.

First, focus on balancing your kapha, which when elevated can contribute to weight gain. Incorporate warming spices like turmeric, ginger, and black pepper into your food, as they help enhance digestion and metabolism. Consume warm, light meals as much as possible and avoid cold, heavy foods that increase kapha. Since your diet is less, ensure it’s nutrient-dense, prioritizing fresh vegetables, legumes, and whole grains.

The night shift can disrupt natural circadian rhythms, affecting your agni (digestive fire) and leading to imbalances. Try to maintain regular meal times aligning as closely to traditional day-night cycle, for example, avoiding heavy meals during nighttime. Getting adequate rest during daytime is crucial—make sure to sleep in a dark, quiet room to support your body’s rejuvenation.

Hair fall can be exacerbated by vata imbalance. Include healthy fats in your diet like coconut oil and ghee(clarified butter) to nourish your scalp and hair, and consider a gentle scalp massage with bhringraj or amla oil to strengthen hair follicles.

Since your symptoms suggest an onset linked to lifestyle alterations, it’s important to gradually implement these changes and observe their impacts over time. If your weight gain and hair loss persist, seek a comprehensive evaluation from a healthcare provider or an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner to rule out any underlying conditions requiring prompt attention.
