Managing OCD and anxiety can be challenging, especially when symptoms persist despite long-term use of medication. In Ayurveda, these conditions are often linked to an imbalance in the Vata and Sattva doshas, leading to heightened anxiety, compulsive behaviors, and mental unrest. While Western medications can provide relief, they may not always address the root causes of your symptoms.
To complement your ongoing treatment, consider integrating Ayurvedic practices into your daily routine. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a well-known adaptogen that can help reduce anxiety and improve overall mental resilience. Additionally, Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) is effective for enhancing cognitive function and promoting mental clarity. Incorporating Shankhapushpi may also support emotional balance and reduce racing thoughts.
Diet plays a significant role in managing anxiety and OCD. Emphasize Sattvic foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts, while avoiding processed and heavy foods that can aggravate anxiety. Practicing regular yoga, meditation, and Pranayama (breathing exercises) can significantly alleviate stress and cultivate a sense of calm.
Creating a structured daily routine, including time for self-care and relaxation, can help ground your mind and reduce anxiety. It’s crucial to collaborate with both your mental health professional and an Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor a holistic treatment plan that addresses your specific needs. Remember, healing is a journey, and combining both approaches may provide you with the comprehensive support necessary to find relief and improve your quality of life.

Hello Das, Psychological issues are multidimensional and according to Ayurveda certain body constitutions are prone to them. Especially Vata & pitta individuals. Along with that chronic stress, impaired digestion and inflammation can also aggravate the factors. Ayurvedic doctors will help you understand the cause. Also have you tried counselling?
Ayurveda can be used alongside your current treatment.
Consult both your doctors: It's essential to discuss with your psychiatrist/doctor and an Ayurvedic practitioner before changing or adding to your treatment.
Take a holistic approach: Focus on therapy, meditation, and lifestyle changes while using medication to manage symptoms.
