Finger numbness at night, especially if it occurs in certain positions, could be related to various factors. Stress and anxiety, which you’re experiencing after recent losses, can contribute to nerve compression or even make existing conditions worse. In terms of physical causes, it’s possible that sleeping with your hands in a curled position could be causing pressure on the nerves, particularly those in the wrists, like in carpal tunnel syndrome. The numbness could also indicate vitamin deficiencies, like B12, or issues with blood circulation, which may be aggravated by stress.
The use of calcium and Vitamin D supplements is helpful for bone and nerve health, but if the numbness persists, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional. They may suggest a nerve conduction study or an MRI if necessary to check for nerve compression or other conditions.
As for your lifestyle choices, your balanced diet and avoidance of heavy or spicy foods at night are good habits for general health. Stress management through mindfulness, yoga, or gentle exercises could help with your overall well-being, which might also help alleviate physical symptoms like numbness.
If you continue experiencing numbness, it may be helpful to check for any circulatory or nerve issues with a professional who can guide you based on your specific symptoms and history.
It sounds like you’ve been juggling quite a bit, and losing loved ones definitely adds stress to the body and mind. That finger numbness at night, it could tie into your current stress and lifestyle changes. From an Ayurvedic lens, this numbness, especially happening while at rest, might hint at a vata imbalance. Vata dosha governs movement in the body, and an imbalance can lead to sensations like numbness or tingling.
So, let’s go through a few things you might try. First, try to warm and calm your system. Before bed, you could massage your hands and forearms with slightly warmed sesame oil - sesame is really grounding. Do it gently, focusing on areas that feel tense, and spend a few minutes on this soothing ritual. You could also apply a warm towel on your neck and shoulders for a few minutes to relax those muscles.
Ah, I see you’re trying to fix your sleep posture - brilliant. Keep your arms by your side or gently relaxed to avoid unnecessary pressure on nerves. Consider using a pillow that supports your neck well!
About the diet, keep going with that balanced approach but maybe sneak in some more magnesium-rich foods too. Think greens like spinach, nuts like almonds, or seeds. They can nourish the nervous system and help balance vata. Since you’re already avoiding heavy, spicy foods in the evening, continue with that routine.
Considering your calcium and vitamin D intake, they’re key, but remember absorption starts in a healthy gut. Maybe try sipping on a little warm ginger tea or add a pinch of hing (asafoetida) to warm dishes to help with digestion, especially if bloating or indigestion troubles you.
Most importantly, find pockets of time in your day to breathe or unwind. Even ten minutes of guided meditation or just some deep breathing exercises could ease stress and harmonize the doshas. Stress and anxiety, they do quite a number on vata dosha, so grounding practices like regular walks in nature or even slow yoga could work wonders.
If your symptoms persist though, do get them evaluated further to rule out any specific nerve or circulatory issues—safety first! Ayurveda can provide wonderful support but some cases demand more urgent medical attention.
