- Balanced meals: Include carbohydrates (rice, potatoes, oats), proteins (chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, legumes if tolerated), and healthy fats (olive oil, flaxseed, walnut). - Cooked vegetables & fruits: Prefer soft, peeled, or blended forms (e.g., applesauce, cooked carrots, squash, bananas). - Omega‑3 rich foods: Salmon, tuna, mackerel, chia seeds, flaxseed meal — shown to reduce inflammation. - Low‑fiber adjustments: Insoluble fiber (raw kale, apple skin, popcorn, nuts) may irritate; soluble fiber (oats, bananas, peeled apples) is usually better tolerated. - Hydration: Water, broths, smoothies, or oral rehydration solutions if stools are loose. - Calcium & Vitamin D: Since dairy is avoided, use fortified plant milks (soy, almond, oat), leafy greens, sesame seeds, or supplements if advised by his doctor. - Protein intake: Aim for 2–3 servings daily (chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, nut butters). Protein supports healing and growth. Foods Commonly Avoided— - High-fat fried foods (butter-heavy dishes, cheesy meals). - Spicy foods (chili powder, hot sauces). - Processed meats (sausages, bacon, deli meats). - Artificial sweeteners & sugar alcohols (sorbitol, sucralose). - Caffeine & alcohol (coffee, energy drinks, beer, wine). - Excess red meat (linked to inflammation if consumed daily).

In ulcerative colitis the main goal is to keep digestion stable and protect the intestinal lining from irritation Even when symptoms are minimal it is important to continue a gentle and disciplined diet Since he is already avoiding dairy and has good appetite he can continue with simple warm freshly prepared foods that are easy to digest such as soft cooked rice moong dal soups vegetable khichdi well cooked vegetables ripe fruits soaked almonds and small amounts of healthy fats like sesame oil or coconut oil Such foods help support digestion and provide nourishment without putting excessive strain on the colon Very spicy deep fried highly processed packaged foods refined sugar and excessive junk foods should be minimized because they can disturb intestinal balance and trigger inflammation Regular meal timings adequate hydration proper rest and a calm routine are also very important for maintaining long term stability in ulcerative colitis Mild digestive spices such as cumin fennel turmeric and small amounts of ginger in daily cooking can support digestion without irritating the gut Fermented foods very cold foods carbonated drinks and heavy difficult to digest meals are better limited if they cause discomfort Light physical activity good sleep and stress control help maintain intestinal health and reduce the risk of flare ups Since he is currently receiving medical infusions it is important to continue regular follow up with his treating doctor while maintaining this supportive diet and lifestyle approach to keep the condition stable and protect long term digestive health
