Blurry Vision After Taking Mukta Vati - #51624

Client_dfb08e

Hi, My girlfriend (87 y) takes Mukta vati to control her blood pressure. She suffered a couple of years from a heavy heart attack followed by heart failure. Using mukta vati (in the morning and at noon during the meals) worked wonderful to maintain the blood pressure within normal limits. But yesterday night she woke up with a high blood pressure and she took a mukta vati (without food) and in the morning she woke up with a blurry vision. Is there a relationship and what can be done, since the blurry vision persist all day long now.

How often does your girlfriend experience high blood pressure episodes?:

- Frequently

Has she experienced blurry vision before?:

- No, this is the first time

What is her usual diet like?:

- Balanced and nutritious

Doctors' responses

Blurred vision after a high blood pressure episode can sometimes happen, but since it has lasted all day and given your heart history, it is important to get checked by a doctor as soon as possible. It may be related to the blood pressure spike or the medication, but persistent vision changes should be evaluated to rule out eye or circulation problems. Please have your blood pressure checked and seek medical care today.

Hi, Thanks for your quick reply. Blurry vision was much better next day; blood pressure was monitored regularly and remained under control as well. Now she has stomach pain, I don’t know if there is a relation with previous symptoms. We try to get her to a doctor asap, but can last till tomorrow.

Is blurry vision has totally reduced? And any complain of dizziness, headache today? Firstly confirm this then I can guide u properly

Also bp readings of yesterday night and today morning and afternoon also

Hi, Blurry vision has totally reduced but she still remains desorientated. She had headache yesterday, but that’s also gone, so from today she has stomach pain and green stool.

BP was in range again, 14/8.5 (she has usually this BP reading when she’s fine)

Once contact offline with dr. , untill than and continue with mukta vati 2 tab twice daily after meal, and 1 tab Manasmitra vati 1 tab at night

Thanks , that sounds a good plan. The usual 2 mukta vati’s (at breakfast and at lunch), and then a manasamitra vati before going to bed.

No…mukta vati either on breakfast and lunch then 1 at dinner time…bt also Monitor bp.

Yes, I think taking mukta vati on empty stomach was not a good idea. Blurry vision disappeared next day and elevated BP are under control again. But meanwhile, she’s hospitalized and diagnosed galbladder problems and probably intestinal infection. I don’t know if this is coincidentally or the result from taking Mukta vati for more than a half year now, which otherwise works very well !

Hi, Blurry vision disappeared (lasted only 1 day), but eyes will be checked later on. BP is also under control from the same day, but about 2 days later, she experienced heavy pains in the stomach region. Is it possible that the mukta vati tablet on the empty stomach caused a small lesion, irritation or hemorrhage ?

In some people, especially when taken on an empty stomach, these can cause: Gastric irritation Acid increase Burning or cramping stomach pain Nausea This irritation can feel quite severe or “heavy” pain, even without any real injury. —This usually leads to temporary gastritis or acidity rather than a serious lesion or bleeding

Yes, I think this was the case. Blurry vision, other complaints and stomach pain were more a side effect of having taken the pill on an empty stomach. All symptoms make sense now. And from now on we’ll sure take after a good meal …

Muktavati in suggested doses doesn’t cause any problem. There many factors responsible for blurry vision. Consult your family Physician regarding this issue.

Yes it happened due to the Mukta Vati. Currently Do NOT give Mukta Vati today (pause it completely until doctor sees her). Monitor BP every 2–4 hours (sitting & standing) – record readings + time. If BP drops <100/60 or she feels dizzy/faint then lie down, elevate legs, give small salty snack (if no fluid restriction). If BP >180/110 or severe headache/chest pain → emergency hospital NOW. ✓For stomach pain: Give 1 tsp Kamadhudha Ras (Moti Yukta) or Avipattikar Churna 3 gm with cool water (soothes stomach lining fast). Avoid spicy/oily food today; give only light khichdi, banana, coconut water, or thin buttermilk. ✓Hydration & rest Small sips of room-temp water or ORS if tolerated. Keep her calm & resting in semi-sitting position. ✓Get ECG, electrolytes, kidney function, possible adjustment of BP meds ✓Long-term advice Mukta Vati worked well before but now showing side effects , may need dose reduction or switch to gentler options (Arjunarishta 10–15 ml BD or Sarpagandha alone in micro-dose). ✓Always take with food + monitor BP standing/sitting. Never restart without doctor approval. Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

It has cause stomach lining irritating not hemorrhage. Just take kamdudha (moti yukta) and Avipattikar churn as mentioned above.

Hi, Maybe the Mukta vati dose was to high 2 days ago; she usually takes only 1 tablet in the morning and 1 at noon, but since she had an elevated BP 2 nights ago, she took an additional one (without food). It was a try out, because she suffers now and than elevated BP which she battles then always succesfully with Bromazepam. But we wanted to try a more natural way to deal with it. Thanks for your clarifications.

HELLO, Blurry vision after taking Mukta vata can happen in some situations , especially in elderly patients with heart conditions. Since your girlfriend is 87 year old with a history of heart attack and heart failure, this symptoms should be taken seriously POSSIBLE REASONS 1) SUDDE DROP IN BLOOD PPRESSURE -Mukta vati can lower blood pressure quickly if taken on an empty stomach. This may reduce blood flow to the eyes temporarily, causing blurred vision 2) NIGHT TIME BP FLUCTUATION -If blood pressure rose at night and then dropped rapidly after taking the medicine, it may cause visual disturbance 3) WEAK CIRCULATION DUE TO HEART CONDITION -With previous heart failure, circulation to the eyes or brain can be more sensitive to BP changes 4) EMPTY STOMACH INTAKE -Mukta vati is usually safer after meals, taking it without food can intensify its effect WHAT TO DO NOW -Check blood pressure immediately morning and evening -stop the next dose temporarily until Bp and vision are evalutated -ensure adequate hydration and light meals -If blurred vision persists more than 24 hours, kindly consult ophthalmologist urgently to rule out retinal or vascular issues AYURVEDIC SUPPORT -Give 1 tsp Amal juice with water in morning for eye and heart support -Triphala water eye wash mild once daily if irritation exists -Light diet= vegetables, barley, oats, and avoid excess sal Because of age + previous heart attack , sudden vision changes can also signal a serious vascular issue, so medical evaluation is strongly recommended if symptoms continue Likely cause of sudden Bp drop from Mukta vati taken on an empty stomach DO FOLLOW HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL THANK YOU

NO that can be due to other reasons Mukta vati does not cause these severe problems

very important to note that like modern medicines have a time to be taken so does ayurved medicines. KAL (time) is very important and medicines should not be taken as required. About blurred vsion like you mentioned she woke up with a raised BP it is very possible that the raised BP had caused some disturbance in her retinal area or occular area. Get a detailed consultation from an opthalmologist and also a cardiologist and also get a 2 DEcho and if required a Brain CT.

Due to heating potency of the medicine it is likely that patient is experiencing stomach cramps and aches as she has taken on empty stomach. It is advisable to take MUKTA VATI post breakfast. Also please visit the hospital and take a complete body check up done to see if there is no other underlying cause.

- Mukta Vati is an Ayurvedic formulation often used for mild to moderate hypertension. - Taking it without food may sometimes cause stronger effects on blood pressure or interact with digestion, but blurry vision is not a typical side effect. Blurry vision after high blood pressure can be due to: - Hypertensive crisis affecting the eyes (retinal changes). - Reduced blood flow to the optic nerve or brain. - Medication timing or interaction. Given her history, the blurry vision is more likely linked to the blood pressure spike itself rather than Mukta Vati directly. What Can Be Done---- - Seek medical care immediately — contact her cardiologist or go to the emergency department. - Check blood pressure regularly — note if it remains high despite Mukta Vati. - Do not adjust dosage on your own — especially in elderly patients with heart failure. - Eye check‑up — an ophthalmologist can examine the retina for hypertensive changes. - Diet & routine — continue balanced meals, avoid skipping food when taking medicines.

Taking it on an empty stomach is generally not recommended because: - Some of its ingredients can be mildly irritating to the gastric mucosa if not buffered by food. - Empty stomach intake may cause acidity, burning, or irritation in sensitive individuals. - Rarely, if the stomach lining is already fragile (due to gastritis, ulcers, or medications), irritation could lead to small lesions or bleeding.

Mukta vati it is better to take after food as it is a herbo mineral combination.your stomach maybe sensitive to this dose. It will settle down, don’t worry Keep your BP. Under normal. If same problem persists for more than 36 hrs. It is better to see opthalmologist.
