why am i having hair fall - #38452
I am seriously starting to freak out over my hair fall. Like, I used to have this thick mane, but now, it’s like every time I run my fingers through my hair, I see strands everywhere. Just weeks ago, I noticed clumps in my hairbrush and I thought it was just normal or something but wow, it just keeps getting worse! I’ve been stressed out lately, juggling work and family stuff, which I know can mess with things, but still, why am I having hair fall like this? I eat pretty healthy too, or at least I try to—lots of veggies and fruits, but I haven’t been sleeping well. My sister suggested it could be hormonal, but I’m not sure. Also, I did some research and read that using chemicals in hair products can also cause issues like this, but I was kind of hoping it wasn't that. I want to know what ayurvedic solutions are out there for something like this. Could herbs, oils, or different diets help? What else can I do? Like seriously, why am I having hair fall, and how do I stop it before it gets worse? I just want my hair back!

Doctors' responses
Hair fall can be a distressing experience, and pinpointing the exact cause require a bit of investigation. Few common contributors in Ayurveda are stress, imbalanced diet, unhealthy lifestyle, hormonal changes, or even the inappropriate use of chemical-based hair products. From an Ayurvedic perceptive, hair fall can often be linked to an aggravated pitta dosha, which could be influenced by stress and diet.
To address stress, incorporate daily practices that help calm your mind and body. Meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) are excellent ways to restore balance. Brahmi and Ashwagandha are two adaptogenic herbs that can be beneficial for reducing stress; consider using them as supplements after consulting with a practitioner.
Since you already have a foundation of healthy eating, emphasize foods that are cooling and nourishing to counteract pitta - include more coconut, aloe vera, cucumbers, and sweet fruits. Hydration is also key, ensure you drink sufficient water daily, but avoid iced drinks which can disturb digestion. Sleep is another crucial pillar; try winding down with a warm glass of spiced milk before bed - a pinch of nutmeg or turmeric can help with relaxation.
For hair care, something as simple as a gentle head massage with ayurvedic oils can work wonders. Bhringraj oil, often dubbed the “king of herbs” for hair, could rejuvenate the scalp and stimulate hair growth. Apply it once or twice a week, allowing it to sit in your hair for at least 30 minutes before washing it out.
Try to avoid those products with a long list of unnatural ingredients. Opt instead for herbal, sulfate-free shampoos. Also practice regular scalp cleaning; herbal rasayanas can be beneficial, such as using a paste of Shikakai, Amla, and Reetha to cleanse without stripping away natural oils.
Monitor how these approaches work and consider seeking advice from a qualified Ayurvedic physician for your specific constitution and needs. Remember, balance and patience are key in Ayurveda – changes can take some time to manifest, but they address the root of the problem for lasting impact.
