why i have hair fall - #38817

Stella

I am feeling really stressed about my hair fall lately. I mean, it feels like every time I brush my hair, I see more strands than usual on the brush, and it’s kinda freaking me out. I’m only in my late 20s, and shouldn’t be dealing with this already, right? I thought maybe it was stress from work, but then I remember last month I changed my diet too, cut out a lot of junk food and started eating more green veggies. My friend said my diet could affect why I have hair fall, but how? Like, I've read stuff about hormones being a factor too, and honestly, that just confuses me more. I get some dandruff sometimes and my scalp feels weird, almost itchy, which I wonder if that's related to why I have hair fall? And, there's this family history of hair thinning, like my dad! Ugh, I just feel like I'm on this rollercoaster of emotions regarding my hair. What should I even do? Are there Ayurvedic remedies that could help? Or maybe I should look into scalp massages or something natural? I really wanna know why I have hair fall and what I can do, like NOW! Any suggestions would be super appreciated!

Hair fall can be unsettling, especially when noticed at a young age. In Ayurveda, hair health is closely linked to the balance of your doshas—particularly Pitta dosha. Factors such as stress, diet, hormonal shifts, and your family history of hair thinning, which points to a potential genetic component, all affect hair vitality.

Stress is indeed a significant factor, it elevates Pitta leading to heat in the body that weakens hair roots causing fall. It’s crucial to address your stress with routines like regular yoga or pranayama, which help balance your mental state and doshas. Consider including daily practices like Brahmari pranayama and meditation to soothe the mind.

Your dietary shifts may also contribute to your situation. While adding green veggies is beneficial, sudden changes in diet can shock your system, affecting how your body nourishes your dhatus, or body tissues, including hair. Ensure you’re getting enough dietary fats, proteins and iron, necessary for hair strength. Incorporate foods like ghee, sesame oil, and almonds; they help maintain scalp moisture.

The itchy, dandruffy scalp could indicate Vata dosha’s dryness. Simple coconut oil mixed with lemon juice and lightly massaging it into your scalp once a week may soothe irritation and hydrate. Even herbal oils like Bhringraj oil are traditionally used for Pitta balance and hair health.

Scalp massages improve blood circulation which strengthens hair follicles. Use your fingertips for at least 10-15 minutes daily — it can make a difference.

In terms of hormonal influence, ensure your diet and lifestyle work to stabilize these. This includes quality sleep and avoiding Pitta-aggravating foods like spicy and oily dishes.

Genetic predispositions might be difficult to change but manageable. Regular Ayurvedic routines can help manage this. However, If your hair loss condition worsens, consulting a professional is always advisable as your body might need a personalized treatment plan beyond home care.

If your symptoms worsen or persist, make sure to seek the advice of a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying concerns that need immediate attention.

Hair fall can be distressing, but there could be several factors at play here. Let’s try to unravel it systematically. Stress can indeed impact your hair health because high stress levels might increase vata dosha, potentially leading to hair loss. Your recent dietary changes could also influence hair fall. While increasing greens is good, if your body isn’t getting a balanced diet or essential nutrients like iron and protein, that might be another factor.

You mentioned dandruff and scalp itchiness, which might suggest an imbalance in pitta dosha, causing excess heat and inflammation in the scalp. This requires attention not just topically but also internally. Meanwhile, hereditary factors, like your family history, could make you more prone to thinning hair. It’s vital to address these root causes.

For now, consider these Ayurvedic steps:

1. Oil Massage (Abhyanga): Gently massage your scalp with warm coconut oil or bhringraj oil 2-3 times a week. This helps soothe vata-pitta imbalances and nourishes the hair roots. Leave it on for an hour before washing with a mild herbal shampoo.

2. Herbal Infusion Rinse: Use a neem or amla rinse post shampooing. Boil these in water, strain, and use the cooled water as a rinse. It helps with dandruff and scalp health.

3. Diet & Hydration: Ensure you’re getting enough protein, iron, and calcium from whole foods. Incorporate nuts and seeds like almonds and sesame, which are great for hair health. Staying hydrated is crucial, so aim for consistent water intake throughout the day.

4. Stress Management: Adopting practices like yoga or meditation helps reduce stress, thus balancing your doshas. Deep breathing exercises can be particularly effective.

5. Herbal Supplements: Consider ayurvedic herbs like ashwangandha and triphala, which help reduce stress and detoxify. But consult an Ayurvedic practitioner before starting these.

While these steps should help manage hair fall, if the issue persists or you notice any sudden increase, consult with a healthcare provider to rule out underlying health concerns.
