how to apply ghee on face overnight - #43990

Elijah

I am honestly feeling a bit frustrated and confused about my skin lately. I’ve always had pretty decent skin, but then out of nowhere, it started getting really dry and patchy, especially around my cheeks and forehead. I heard that ghee is suppose to be super nourishing and that people use it for all sorts of things, including skincare? But like, how to apply ghee on face overnight seems tricky to me. Do I just slather it on or what?? Last week, I decided to give it a shot after seeing a friend rave about it. But I didn't really know how much to use or if I should mix it with something else. I ended up putting a decent amount on and then woke up with some weird oily feeling. My skin felt soft, but also kind of heavy? I dunno if that’s normal? I watched some videos and they talked about how to apply ghee on face overnight properly, but they all seemed too technical for me. Has anyone here figured out any simple ways or tips on how to apply ghee on face overnight without making a mess? Also, maybe recommendations on how often to do it would be great. I really want my skin back to being healthy! Thanks a bunch!

Using ghee on your face can indeed be nourishing, especially for dry skin. Ghee, known as “ghrita” in Ayurveda, has moisturizing and anti-aging properties due to its essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. It’s excellent for balancing Vata dosha, which is typically responsible for dryness and patchiness.

Here’s a straightforward way to apply ghee overnight — aim to keep it simple. Before bed, cleanse your face with a gentle cleansing agent suited for your skin type. This helps remove any makeup, dirt, or oil that might be sitting on your skin, ensuring the ghee can absorb easily. After cleansing, take a small amount of pure, organic ghee — about the size of a pea or dime should suffice. Dab it lightly between your fingertips and let it soften with the warmth of your hands.

Apply ghee to your face by gently massaging it in upward circular movements. Pay special attention to dry patches, such as cheeks and forehead. The massaging itself can stimulate circulation and ensure deeper penetration. It’s key to be gentle—you don’t need to apply too much pressure.

If you’re concerned about the heavy feeling, you can add a few drops of rose water to ghee before applying to make it lighter. As for frequency, start with 2-3 times a week. If your skin responds well, you may increase or adjust based on your comfort.

Remember that balance and moderation are vital in Ayurveda. If you feel it’s too heavy, reduce the quantity or frequency. Also, always patch test the ghee on a small area before regular use to ensure no allergies or sensitivities.

With consistent use, you might find that your skin becomes softer and healthier. But, if irritation or any concerning symptoms occur, discontinue use and consult with an Ayurvedic or dermatological professional. That way, you ensure safety while nurturing your skin back to health.

Applying ghee on your face overnight can indeed be beneficial for dry and patchy skin, thanks to its deeply moisturizing and nourishing properties. To do it effectively, you can start by cleansing your face thoroughly. Use a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type to remove any dirt or impurities from the surface. This ensures that the skin can fully absorb the goodness of ghee.

Once your face is clean, take a small amount of ghee, roughly the size of a pea, and massage it gently into your face, focusing on the dry areas like your cheeks and forehead. If your skin is particularly dry, you may use slightly more, but avoid overapplying as that can lead to the heavy feeling you’ve experienced. Pat it in, allowing it to seep into your skin rather than rubbing vigorously.

You can also consider mixing ghee with a few drops of rosehip oil or almond oil, which can enhance its effects and prevent the overly greasy sensation, especially if your skin is sensitive to oily textures. Leave the mixture on overnight, and in the morning, cleanse your face with lukewarm water.

As for how often to apply, start with 2-3 times a week and observe how your skin responds. Adjust the frequency based on your skin’s response. If it’s too oily or your skin is reacting unfavorably, reduce the usage.

Keep in mind, the heavy feeling might be normal initially but if it persists or causes discomfort, reassess the amount and method of application. If your dry skin persists or worsens, consider seeking advice from a healthcare provider, as there may be underlying factors other than surface dryness. It’s crucial to ensure that any home remedy, ghee included, aligns well with your unique skin type and condition.
