Doctors' responses

Eczema flare-ups during seasonal changes can be quite frustrating. In Ayurvedic terms, eczema is often related to an imbalance in the doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta. This is exacerbated by seasonal transitions, which may agitate these doshas.

Addressing your eczema requires a multifaceted approach. First, consider your diet— favor warm, moist foods that pacify Vata, and cooling foods to balance Pitta. Think about consuming more sweet, bitter, and astringent foods. Including ghee in your diet can be helpful due to its soothing properties for skin conditions. Avoid spicy, sour, and salty foods as these can aggravate Pitta.

For eczema itself, topical applications of medicated oils such as coconut oil or sesame oil infused with turmeric or neem can aid in reducing itchiness and redness. Apply gently over affected areas after bath. Avoid very hot water; lukewarm is best for bathing. Avoid regular soaps which can be harsh—use Ayurvedic cleansing powders instead.

Since you mentioned issues with iron and Vitamin D, supplementing these deficiencies is important. Iron-rich foods (like legumes and leafy greens) and foods high in Vitamin C can enhance iron absorption. For Vitamin D, sun exposure for 15-20 minutes a day can help boost levels naturally, alongside supplements if necessary.

Slightly elevated homocystein levels can be addressed by adding more folate, B6, and B12 into your diet. Leafy greens, nuts, and seeds are excellent sources.

Additionally, stress plays a significant role in skin conditions like eczema, so incorporating stress-management techniques such as yoga and meditation can be beneficial. Engage in daily routines that align with your dosha and current season; in colder months, focus on maintaining warmth, both internally through diet and externally through appropriate clothing.

Remember to monitor your symptoms closely and consult a healthcare professional regularly to make sure that your condition remains manageable and to adjust your strategy as needed.
