Doctors' responses

Adenoids enlargement in children can result in mouth breathing and nasal obstruction. In Ayurveda, this could relate to an imbalance of Kapha dosha, which commonly governs the respiratory system. At this age, focusing on managing symptoms naturally can be beneficial.

1. Diet: Emphasize a kapha-pacifying diet. Include light, warm foods that are easily digestible. Avoid dairy products, wheat, sugar, and cold foods as they can exacerbate Kapha. Encourage warm soups, cooked vegetables, and whole grains like quinoa and barley. Turmeric and ginger have anti-inflammatory properties, so incorporating them can be helpful.

2. Lifestyle: Regular physical activity like walking or playing in open spaces could enhance circulation and reduce Kapha accumulation. Ensure that the child is sleeping well and maintain a regular sleep routine.

3. Home remedies: Turmeric milk at night with a pinch of pepper can help boost the child’s immunity while also being gentle enough not to irritate their digestive system.

4. Nasal Care: Use warm saline water for nasal irrigation to help clear any nasal blockages. Make sure water is at the right temperature and guide him gently in using it.

5. Herbal support: An ayurvedic practitioner might suggest Ayurvedic formulations like Sitopaladi Churna, often used to support respiratory health. However, consult with a pediatric Ayurvedic physician to ensure it’s appropriate and safe for your son.

6. Consultation: Sometimes, surgical removal of adenoids might be necessary if symptoms are severe and persistent. Ensure you’re in regular touch with an ENT specialist to monitor any necessary interventions.

Ayurvedic approaches often work best when personalized, so working with an Ayurvedic doctor can provide a more tailored approach to your son’s needs, considering his unique constitution and current imbalance.

Enlarged adenoids and nasal bone enlargement in your son may indicate an imbalance in the kapha dosha, often associated with excess mucus and congestion issues. Here’s a plan that might help manage the symptoms through a Siddha-Ayurvedic approach, but be mindful to consult a medical professional if the symptoms are affecting his well-being seriously.

Firstly, considering diet is essential. It’s beneficial to reduce kapha-aggravating foods such as dairy, fried foods, and sweets. Encourage warm, light meals with ingredients like ginger and turmeric which help in reducing kapha and clearing excess mucus.

For practical home remedies, you might consider steam inhalation with a few drops of eucalyptus oil. This can help open the nasal passages and provide some relief from congestion. Ensure the steam is not too hot and guide him through inhalation to avoid any discomfort.

Nasya karma, which involves the application of medicated oil or drops in the nose, might also be beneficial. Sesame oil can be slightly warmed and used for this purpose. A drop in each nostril can help lubricate the nasal passages, though do not use any oil if there’s a concern of aspiration or the child is uncomfortable.

Routine might also play a role in improving his symptoms. Encourage regular physical activity suitable for his age, like playing outdoors, to help reduce kapha naturally.

If these home measures don’t alleviate the symptoms effectively, or if he experiences breathing difficulties, snoring, or interrupted sleep, it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider, possibly an ENT specialist. Immediate intervention might be necessary if his quality of life or health is compromised by these conditions.
