Joint mundi pain with stiffness and swelling in both the legs. On examination it is 4th stage. No pain killer taken till now. Aged 76 years.Only HONEY VENOM applied and controlled. Which one is most suitable or fit. I am alone. Not interested in surgery.Bp with 150 by 90 with plus or minus 2%. Just Now procured one bottle of Kottamchukkadi thailam oil

Ayurvedic Diagnosis (Probable)

Sandhigata Vata (osteoarthritis) with Shotha (swelling) and Aama involvement (if heaviness & stiffness more)

Main Dosha: Vata predominant Associated: Kapha / Aama due to swelling & stiffness

🌿 AYURVEDIC PRESCRIPTION (30 Days)

1) Internal Medicines (Main Prescription)

A) For Joint degeneration + pain

Yograj Guggulu

Dose: 1 tablet (250–500 mg) twice daily

After food with lukewarm water

Duration: 30 days

✅ Reduces pain, stiffness, improves mobility.

B) For inflammation + swelling

Punarnava Mandur

Dose: 1 tablet twice daily

After food with warm water

Duration: 30 days

✅ Best for swelling/edema in legs + inflammation.

C) For cartilage support + strength (Rasayana)

Shallaki (Boswellia) capsule 400 mg

Dose: 1 capsule twice daily after food

Duration: 60–90 days

OR

Lakshadi Guggulu

Dose: 1 tab twice daily after food

Duration: 60 days

✅ Supports bones/joints.

D) If stiffness is severe in morning / digestion weak

Rasnadi Kashayam / Maharasnadi Kashayam

Dose: 15 ml + 15 ml warm water

twice daily before food

Duration: 30 days

✅ Excellent for knee joint stiffness + swelling.

2) External Applications (Very Important)

A) Oil massage

Since patient already has Kottamchukkadi Tailam (good for pain + stiffness):

Kottamchukkadi Tailam

Apply warm (slightly heated) oil on both knees

Massage 10 min

Twice daily

B) Hot fomentation (Best)

After massage do: Hot water bag / warm towel fomentation

15 minutes

Twice daily

✅ Best combination for stage 4 pain.

C) Knee pack (if swelling present)

Nirgundi leaves poultice (or powder)

Mix Nirgundi powder + warm water

Apply like paste over knee

Keep 20 min, then wash

Once daily

3) Home Remedies (Safe & Effective)

Remedy 1: Turmeric support

Haldi + warm milk

1 pinch turmeric in milk at night (If digestion permits)

Remedy 2: Fenugreek for stiffness

Methi water

Soak 1 tsp methi overnight

Drink water in morning (3–4 days/week)


Remedy 3: Ginger + cumin digestion tea

If heaviness/swelling:

Boil dry ginger + cumin

Sip warm 1–2 times/day

4) Diet Plan (Pathya-Apathya)

✅ Recommended foods

Warm, light foods

Moong dal khichdi

Wheat rotis + cooked sabzi

Bottle gourd, ridge gourd, pumpkin, carrot, spinach (cooked)

Garlic (2–3 cloves cooked)

Cow ghee 1 tsp/day

Warm water only

✅ Helps Vata + joints lubrication.

❌ Avoid strictly

Curd at night

Cold items: cold water, ice cream, fridge food

Bakery, biscuits, fried snacks

Excess tea/coffee

Excess tomato / brinjal / potato (may increase inflammation)

Pickles & very salty foods (increase swelling/BP)

5) Lifestyle Instructions

✅ Daily routine

Avoid sitting cross-legged

Avoid squatting (Indian toilet)

Use knee cap support if walking

Avoid stairs as much as possible

Sleep early, wake early

✅ Walking

15 minutes slow walk twice daily (only within pain limits)

✅ Weight management

Even small weight reduction reduces knee load.

6) Yoga & Physiotherapy (Elderly-friendly)

Best exercises (very safe)

✅ Quadriceps strengthening

Sit on bed, stretch leg straight, hold 5 seconds

Repeat 10 times each leg

✅ Ankle pump

Move ankle up/down 30 times (reduces swelling)

✅ Chair support movements

Sit-to-stand with support 5–7 times

Yoga (gentle)

Vajrasana not recommended (bad for knee)

Only:

Tadasana (support)

Pawanmuktasana part-1 joint movements
