This kind of crying at a fixed time with body stiffness and leg movements is commonly seen in colic at this age. It happens due to immature digestion and gas formation, and usually improves gradually as the baby grows. Try to keep the baby well burped after every feed, as trapped gas is a common cause. During feeding, ensure proper latch to avoid excess air intake. In the evening, keep the environment calm and avoid overstimulation. You can gently hold the baby in an upright position or place the baby on your shoulder and pat slowly. Light rocking and swaddling can also help in soothing. At home, you can do gentle tummy massage using a little warm coconut oil in clockwise direction, followed by mild warm compress (not too hot). This helps in relieving gas. Mother’s diet also plays a role during breastfeeding. Try to avoid very spicy, gas-forming foods like excess cabbage, chana, or heavy fried items, as it can sometimes affect the baby. No internal medicines for baby at this age These episodes are common in the first few months and usually settle by 3–4 months. If crying becomes continuous, baby refuses feeds, or there is vomiting or fever, then a direct pediatric check is advised. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)
