According to Ayurveda, height growth depends on proper nourishment of all the body tissues (Dhatus), especially Asthi Dhatu (bone tissue), along with good digestion (Agni) and balanced hormones. However, it is important to understand that once the growth plates in the bones have closed—usually by the late teenage years to early twenties—further increase in height is generally not possible. First, Determine Your Age Your age is the most important factor: If you are still in your teens, some growth potential may remain. If you are in your early twenties or older, significant height increase is unlikely because the growth plates are usually fused. Ayurvedic Perspective If growth stopped early, Ayurveda may consider factors such as: Weak digestion and poor nutrient absorption during childhood. Vata imbalance affecting tissue development. Inadequate nourishment of Asthi Dhatu. Hereditary (genetic) factors, which play a major role. Ayurvedic Measures to Support Healthy Development Diet for Asthi Dhatu Nourishment Include: Milk (if well tolerated) Ghee in moderation Sesame seeds (til) Almonds soaked overnight Dates and raisins Moong dal Seasonal fruits and vegetables Protein-rich foods according to your diet preference Avoid: Excess junk food Carbonated soft drinks Excessively processed foods Skipping meals Lifestyle Regular exercise and outdoor activities. Yoga practices such as: Tadasana (Mountain Pose) Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) Surya Namaskar Trikonasana Adequate sleep (7–9 hours daily), as growth-related hormones are released during sleep. Ayurvedic Rasayana Support Traditionally, herbs such as: Ashwagandha Shatavari Amalaki Bala are used to support strength, nourishment, and overall development. However, these herbs cannot reopen closed growth plates or guarantee an increase in height. About “Height Increasing Products” Be cautious with products claiming to increase height in adults. Many supplements and herbal products advertise height gain without reliable scientific evidence. If your growth plates have fused, no medicine, powder, capsule, or Ayurvedic product can reliably increase bone length.
