Doctors' responses

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

In Ayurveda, the combination of foods is very important for maintaining balance in the body. Muli (radish) is known for its pungent and slightly bitter properties, which can stimulate digestion and help clear toxins (ama) from the body. Yogurt, on the other hand, is heavy and sour, which can be nourishing but may also increase Kapha dosha if consumed in excess.

Combining muli with yogurt can be beneficial if done correctly. The pungency of radish can help balance the heaviness of yogurt, promoting better digestion and assimilation of nutrients. However, it’s crucial to consider the timing and method of consumption to avoid any digestive discomfort.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How often do you consume yogurt? Is it daily, a few times a week, or less frequently? 2. Do you experience any digestive issues such as bloating or gas after eating yogurt or muli? If so, how severe are they? 3. What type of yogurt do you usually consume? Is it full-fat, low-fat, non-fat, or plant-based? 4. How do you typically prepare the muli and yogurt? Is it as a raw salad, mixed with spices, in a smoothie, or in a cooked dish? 5. Are you following any specific diet plan, such as vegetarian or vegan? 6. Do you have any known food allergies or intolerances, such as lactose intolerance? 7. How would you rate your overall health? Would you say it’s excellent, good, fair, or poor?

Your detailed responses will help in providing you with the best guidance for consuming muli and yogurt in a way that supports your health and well-being.

You can take radish with yogurt as raita at lunch. Add roasted cumin and black salt for better digestion. Avoid eating it at night, and keep the quantity moderate.

Best way to eat muli (radish) Eat raw in daytime (lunch) Add little salt + lemon → better digestion Yogurt (curd) Eat fresh curd in daytime only Add black pepper jeera powder Do NOT eat muli + yogurt together (can cause digestion issues in Ayurveda)

Namaste, Radish (muli) and yogurt are both healthy individually, but in Ayurveda, combining them regularly is not considered ideal. Radish has a sharp, heating nature, while yogurt is heavy and increases kapha. Together, they can sometimes lead to bloating, sluggish digestion, or skin issues, especially if taken frequently. If you still want to include both in your diet, the best way is: Take them separately, preferably during lunch time Avoid taking either of them at night Do not make it a daily combination Better ways to consume them: Radish: grated with a pinch of rock salt, lemon, and roasted cumin powder → improves digestion Yogurt: plain or as buttermilk (diluted with water) with cumin and black salt If combining occasionally: Use small quantity Add digestive spices like cumin, black pepper, or rock salt Always consume fresh (not stored) Important tips: Avoid cold yogurt; take it at room temperature If you already have bloating, sinus issues, or skin problems, avoid this combination Simple approach: Take radish and yogurt separately for better digestion and overall benefit 👍

Grate fresh radish (white or pink) finely. Mix 1 small bowl grated radish with ½–1 cup fresh yogurt. Add a pinch of roasted cumin powder + rock salt (optional). Eat as a side dish or raita with lunch (mid-day meal). Why this is best: Radish is cooling and helps digestion, liver & kidney. Yogurt provides probiotics and calcium. Together they improve gut health, reduce bloating, support skin, and aid weight management. Cumin enhances digestibility and reduces any gas. ✓Tips: Eat fresh - do not store. Best in lunch, avoid at night. If you have cold constitution or joint pain, reduce quantity or add a pinch of black pepper. This simple radish-yogurt raita is a traditional Ayurvedic way to gain maximum benefit. Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

The combination of yogurt and radish provides a cooling probiotic base and cleansing element they stimulate the digestive system also support liver and gallbladder clear the congestion and provide internal cooling So for taking Mooli and yogurt together you can use grated or lightly sauted or squeeze out the juice of Muli before adding in yogurt and use in a raita form Always add Hing jeera black salt and black pepper in it Afternoon with lunch is the ideal time Please strictly avoid eating late night or with milk

Hello, From an Ayurvedic perspective, Multi (white radish) + yogurt is a combination that needs to be used carefully, because it can either support digestion or disturb it depending on how you prepare and consume it Ayurvedic nature of Ingredients -Muli (radish) Taste= pungent, sightly bitter Effect= reduces kapha, stimulates digestion, clears mucus Can aggravate vata if raw or in excess -Yogurt -heavy, sour , heating -increases kapha and pitta -good for gut strength if used properly Together -This combo can become heavy + mucus forming if done wrong -but can be digestive and probiotic if balanced properly Best way to Eat Muli with Yogurt 1) Prefer buttermilk over plain yogurt Instead of thick yogurt -dilute yogurt with 2-3 parts water -churn well (remove cream if possible) This makes it -lighter -easier to digest -tridosha friendly 2) Always add digestive spices This is very important Mix in -roasted cumin powder -black pepper -rock salt -A pinch of hing These -prevent gas (vata) -reduce heaviness (kapha) -improve absorption 3) Use grated radish not large chunks -grate muli finely -lightly squeeze out excess water reduces sharpness Easier digestion, less bloating 4) Ideal preparation -grated radish -diluted yogurt (or buttermilk) -add spices above -fresh coriander This becomes multi raita When to Eat -best time= Lunch (midday) -Avoid= night time causes mucus, indigestion and early morning Important Avoidances Do Not combine -with milk -with fish or heavy meals -In cold weather without spices Avoid if you have -sinus/cold/cough -IBS with gas unless well spiced Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you

eat as salad with your lunch. avoid for dinner. you can give dry tadka of jeera and ajwaine. avoid adding salt in it.

Radish is pungent ,so causes digestive issues when combined with yoghurt.causes digestive issues.radish is heating nature contrasts with curd’s cooling effect, that leads to bloating and acidity. 1) Grate mooli add some salt keep for 15 minutes, after that squeeze the liquid and use this mooli adding to yoghurt , can add roasted jeera powder,+ coriander leaves+ asafoetida - pinch and little to taste black salt. - this will make a healthy raita and prevent any digestion issues.but don’t take after sunset. 2) can make a dip by mixing walnut+ mooli + green chilli = make a paste and add to yoghurt + salt to taste. + Roasted jeera powder+ asafoetida.
