High bad cholesterol, combined with low good cholesterol, presents a challenge many face, especially when considering the additional presence of diabetes. Ayurveda, fortunately, offers a range of natural remedies that align well with your needs. A cornerstone in Ayurveda is the balance of the doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha—and focusing on diet, lifestyle, and specific herbs to manage this balance can provide a holistic way to approach your condition.

Firstly, let’s dive into diet. It’s essential to focus on foods that manage both cholesterol levels and blood sugar. Introduce barley and millets into your meals as they are known to lower cholesterol. Ghee, when consumed moderately, can enhance good cholesterol without affecting blood glucose adversely. Include foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, like flaxseeds and walnuts, which help in lowering LDL and increase HDL levels. Avoid refined sugars, trans fats, and opt for complex carbohydrates.

Moving to lifestyle, ensure regular physical activity. Yoga, with an emphasis on poses like Surya Namaskar and Kapalbhati Pranayam, can be particularly beneficial. Managing stress is also crucial; practices such as meditation and pranayama can help regulate both cholesterol and glucose levels. Consistent sleep is another often overlooked but crucial factor.

Ayurvedic herbs and formulations can be potent adjuncts to this regimen. Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna) has shown promise in lowering LDL cholesterol while raising HDL. Take Arjuna powder, about half a teaspoon, mixed in water, preferably before meals. Triphala is another excellent option for balancing cholesterol levels and aiding in digestion, take it at bedtime. Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) can also aid by supporting glucose regulation, consider consuming it in tablet form if available, twice daily.

Before making any changes, consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to fine-tune recommendations to your specific constitution. Dosage and frequency might vary based on your prakriti, and an expert can help you avoid any adverse interactions, especially with ongoing treatments. Be mindful of continously monitoring your conditions with healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective management.
