how to make kadha for cough - #25089

Stella

I am really struggling with this persistent cough for the past few weeks. I’ve tried multiple over-the-counter meds but nothing seems to work. A friend mentioned that I should try kadha, but I honestly have no idea how to make kadha for cough. I heard it’s super effective, but do I just throw everything in a pot and boil it? What kind of ingredients should I use? I've read stuff about ginger and tulsi, but I'm not sure what ratios are right, or if something else might help too. I feel like I’m just wasting time, and I'm tired of the nagging cough especially at night!! Yesterday I added some honey to warm water thinking it would soothe my throat but didn’t help much either. I want to try this kadha thing, but do I need any special preparation or do I just drink it regularly? Could really use some guidance on how to make kadha for cough, plz help!

To prepare an effective kadha for your cough, you’ll need a blend of Ayurvedic herbs known for their soothing and expectorant properties. Start with these basics—each have their unique role in balancing doshas and enhancing respiratory health.

Here’s a simple yet potent recipe: take 2 cups of water in a pot, add about 1 inch of grated fresh ginger, which is excellent for Kapha-related coughs due to its warming effects. Add 5-6 fresh tulsi leaves (holy basil), a revered herb in Ayurveda with strong anti-inflammatory and immunity-boosting properties. Include 1 teaspoon of crushed black pepper, its warmth helps in reducing phlegm. Then add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, and a small stick of cinnamon, cinnamon brings warmth that can help soothe your throat.

Boil all these together until the water reduces to about half. Strain the concoction into a cup. Now, here’s where your honey can come in; let the kadha cool a little (not too hot to touch) before adding a teaspoon of honey. Honey soothes the throat and acts as a demulcent, but it’s important not to add it to boiling hot liquid to preserve its beneficial properties.

Drink this preparation warm, ideally once or twice daily. While morning and evening might be convenient, find times that work within your schedule. Remember, each person has unique body constitution, so it’s advisable to observe how your body responds to it.

This simple and traditional remedy targets the root cause allied to cough by balancing your Kapha dosha and supporting your respiratory pathways. If the cough persists despite consuming the kadha regularly or increases in severity, it’s important to seek further medical advice. Sometimes stubborn coughs require additional interventions, so don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider if necessary. Ensure also to avoid fried, cold and heavy foods as they can aggravate cough due to their Kapha-increasing qualities.
