I am struggling with sines and feel congested in my nose, I have a watery running.and stuffy nose, coughing when I am lying down mostly. I have a post nasal drip. I am a Vada Dosha. I am a vegetarian. I have nuts and fruit for breakfast and have a my main meal in the afternoon.

First, consider favoring warm, cooked meals over raw ones, especially in the morning. While nuts and fruut can be nutritious, they might not provide enough warmth or moisture needed by Vata. You might try a warm porridge made from oats, or rice cooked with milk, adding spices like cinnamon and cardamom, that can soothe Vata imbalance and support digestion.

Triphala, known in Ayurveda as a tridoshic remedy, can assist you in clearing congestion. You can take 1/2 tsp of Triphala powder in warm water before bed. It will help clear ama, the toxins that may be blocking your sinuses.

Incorporating a steam inhalation routine with eucalyptus or peppermint oil could also help reduce nasal congestion. Boil water, add a few drops of essential oil, and inhale the steam by covering your head with a towel. These oils have been historically used to open nasal passages.

Daily Nasya, a therapy involving the application of herbal oils in the nostrils, can aid in easing sinus symptoms. Anu taila is traditionally recommended for Vata type conditions; apply 2-3 drops in each nostril while lying down.

Since you’re experiencing coughing more noticeably while lying down, you might consider elevating the head of your bed to prevent postnasal drip irritation in your throat, or sip on warm ginger tea in the evening to soothe the throat and support digestion.
