Asthma and accompanying breathing issues can be challenging. In Ayurveda, asthma is often linked with an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, affecting the respiratory system. It’s vital to address this imbalance while ensuring comprehensive support for your health.
First, given that your B12 levels are low, it’s crucial to manage this deficiency effectively. As a vegetarian, you can consider fortified foods like cereals, plant-based milks, or B12 supplements. Ensure you are getting at least 2.4 micrograms per day, as most recommendations suggest.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, incorporating warming spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric may help balance Kapha. You might try making a tea with these spices. Simply boil water, add a piece of fresh ginger, a pinch of black pepper, and turmeric, and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes. Drink this tea once or twice daily.
Pranayama, particularly Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing), can also be beneficial. Practice this in a calm environment, starting with 5 minutes daily, gradually extending to 15 minutes, as comfort. It helps in clearing nasal passages and enhancing lung capacity.
Diet is important, so focus on warm, light, and easily digestible foods. Favor cooked vegetables like spinach and carrots, avoiding cold, heavy foods like dairy and sweets which may aggravate Kapha. Warm soups and broths may offer soothing effects.
Regular, gentle physical activity is advised to enhance lung function. Activities like brisk walking or yoga can help, but ensure you don’t overexert yourself.
Remember, if your breathing issues are severe or persist, seeking medical attention promptly must be a priority. Some situations may require a combination of approaches, and consulting with a healthcare professional to manage asthma effectively is prudent.
Lastly, maintain awareness of environmental triggers, like dust or pollutants, and try to minimize exposure to them. Keep indoor spaces well-ventilated but free of major allergens.
