How can I possibly shrink an acoustic neuroma? - #17313

Liav

Hello, I’m a 29 male and I was diagnosed with a right side acoustic neuroma 2.5 years ago. It’s relatively small (grew from 14mm*8mm to 15*10). My right ear’s hearing is actually okay, not perfect but definitely manageable and most of the time unnoticeable. I’ve had some episodes of dizziness and I do have tinnitus, which is also manageable. What could possibly help me to at least halt the growth? Thank you!

Hello Liav, I understand the importance of balancing the body’s internal energies to support healing and maintain well-being. In your case, the presence of an acoustic neuroma and its associated symptoms such as dizziness and tinnitus suggest an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and communication in the body. To help manage the growth and symptoms, it’s important to focus on strengthening your internal vitality and balancing Vata. I would recommend a combination of herbal therapies, such as Brahmi and Ashwagandha, to promote nerve health, reduce stress, and enhance circulation. A diet rich in grounding, nourishing foods like warm soups, ghee, and root vegetables can help soothe Vata. Additionally, practices like yoga, meditation, and pranayama (breathing exercises) can reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Regular consultations with an Ayurvedic expert would allow for personalized treatments, including possible Panchakarma detox therapies, to help your body’s natural healing processes. Always remember, Ayurveda works holistically and in conjunction with your current medical care.

Namaste, It is good that you are aware of your condition and taking steps to manage it. Acoustic neuroma, or vestibular schwannoma, is a slow-growing, benign tumor that affects the auditory and vestibular nerves. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this could be a result of Vata and Kapha imbalance, where excess Vata causes irregular nerve function and Kapha contributes to abnormal tissue growth. Our focus will be on balancing these doshas, improving circulation to the affected nerves, and supporting your body's natural healing mechanisms to prevent further progression. To halt the growth and support nerve health, certain Ayurvedic herbs and therapies may be beneficial. Brahmi (1 teaspoon of Brahmi powder with warm milk at night) nourishes the nervous system and improves cognitive function, while Ashwagandha (1 capsule or 500 mg twice daily) strengthens nerves and reduces stress, which can aggravate Vata. Kanchanar Guggulu (2 tablets twice daily after meals) is traditionally used for reducing abnormal growths and maintaining cellular health. Regular Nasya therapy (applying 2-3 drops of Anu Taila in each nostril daily) can enhance circulation to the head and may help in reducing tinnitus and dizziness. Your diet should be Vata- and Kapha-pacifying, which means warm, cooked, and easily digestible meals. Avoid excessive dairy, cold foods, processed sugars, and heavy, greasy meals, as these can increase Kapha and encourage unwanted growth. Favor fresh fruits, vegetables, ghee, nuts, and herbal teas like Dashmool or Tulsi-Ginger tea to support nerve function and reduce inflammation. Also, staying well-hydrated with warm water throughout the day is essential for maintaining good circulation. Additionally, meditation, Pranayama (especially Nadi Shodhana for calming the nervous system), and mild yoga like Vajrasana and Balasana can improve energy flow and support healing. Sound therapy with soft, healing frequencies may also help manage tinnitus naturally. While Ayurveda does not claim to shrink tumors overnight, with consistent effort and holistic healing, it is possible to maintain balance, reduce symptoms, and slow down or halt the progression of the condition. I encourage you to listen to your body and embrace this journey with patience and positivity.

Hey there! So, dealing with an acoustic neuroma can be quite a bit to manage, but there's lot's within Ayurveda that could potentially support you in keeping things steady—or maybe even help a little with the growth. Firstly, since your hearing isn't too off and dizziness and tinnitus are under control, the main focus is about balance, right? According to Ayurveda, it's crucial to keep Vata and Pitta doshas in check. Acoustic neuromas are often seen in connection with these doshas, and imbalances could potentiallly affect nerve tissues (Majja Dhatu). Think of this as maintaining an inner harmony to stall anything from getting outta hand. Diet is massive here. Go for warm, cooked meals; favor things like sweet, bitter and astringent tastes. Say yes to food which is easy on digestion—think of stuff like moong dal khichdi. Avoid stuff that's too spicy or oily since that can aggravate Pitta. Also, steer clear of processed foods and alcohol, as both can destabilize Vata and Pitta. Herbal allies, too! Ashwagandha is a fantastic adaptogen—it helps some folks by calming the nerves and promoting overall balance. Brahmi is another good one for supporting the nervous system. These herbs can be taken as powders, capsules, or even brewed as teas. Don't underestimate daily routines (dinacharya). Gentle yoga asanas focusing on balance and meditation can work wonders for calming Vata—think tree pose or even Shavasana for relaxation. Finally, never skip out on medical advice. Regular check-ups are paramount, just to track any changes. While Ayurveda can help harmonize the body's internal environment, it's not a repacement for modern medical treatments especially in potentially serious conditions like this. Hope you find some balance with this! Feel free to adjust the recommendations as needed based on your pratical lifestyle—go little by little, and see how it feels.
