The symptoms you're describing indicate a condition that requires careful attention. The numbness and swelling in your feet and legs, particularly following sciatica, suggest vata dosha vitiation, which can cause poor circulation and nerve issues. In Ayurveda, addressing the root cause is key, balancing your body's energies: vata in particular here. Firstly, consider your diet. It's important to pacify vata with warm, cooked, and moist foods. Eating warm, home-cooked meals with plenty of ghee, olive oil, or sesame oil can be soothing. Avoid cold, dry, or raw foods which can aggravate vata. Incorporating nuts, seeds, cooked vegetables, and grains can provide warmth and nourishment. Hydration is crucial, drink warm water or herbal teas with ginger or cinnamon. Avoid caffeinated or carbonated beverages as they can disturb vata. Ginger tea especially can improve circulation and reduce numbness. Daily self-massage (abhyanga) with warm sesame oil or Mahanarayan oil can alleviate vata imbalance, improve circulation and reduce numbness. After applying the oil, sit for 15-20 minutes before taking a warm bath or shower. Gentle yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) or Anuloma Viloma can help improve circulation and increase energy flow in the body. Walking can be beneficial too, but don’t overdo it if you feel pain. Herbal supplements such as Punarnava and Guggulu may help reduce swelling and improve joint circulation, but should be taken under the guidance of an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner. Since your symptoms seem severe and persistent, please seek professional medical attention to rule out any deeper underlying issues. While natural remedies can offer support, they should not replace advice or treatments from a medical professional, especially when nerve function is involved.
