Dear Chaitra, Thank you for reaching out. A persistent dry cough despite normal investigations such as chest X-ray may be due to various underlying causes including allergic reactions, post-nasal drip, gastric reflux, or chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract. Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to address such conditions by balancing the doshas and strengthening the respiratory system. Here is a basic treatment plan to help manage your symptoms: 1. Syp Cof-15 – 10 ml, three times a day after food. 2. Tab Trishun – One tablet, three times a day after food. 3. Sitopaladi Churna – 1 teaspoon with honey, twice daily. 4. Talisadi Churna – 1 teaspoon with warm water or honey, twice daily. 5. Septillin (Himalaya) – 2 tablets, twice a day after food. 6. Anu Taila (nasal drops) – 2 drops in each nostril, once daily in the morning on an empty stomach (if no active cold/congestion). In addition to this, steaming with plain water or with a pinch of turmeric and salt may also help soothe the throat and reduce inflammation. However, for a more accurate and long-term relief plan, I would recommend an in-person or online consultation. This will allow us to assess your Prakriti (body constitution), possible dietary/lifestyle triggers, and underlying causes in more detail for a tailored Ayurvedic management plan. Wishing you good health and relief soon.

A dry cough lingering for months can be quite bothersome. In Ayurveda, a chronic dry cough is often related to an imbalance in Vata and Pitta doshas, usually causing dryness and irritation in the respiratory pathways. Finding relief requires balancing these doshas and nurturing respiratory tissues (Rasadhatu particularly). First, dietary changes can be powerful. Favor warm, cooked foods like moong dal soup, rice with clarified butter (ghee), and plenty of cooked vegetables. Avoid cold, dry, spicy, and fried foods, which can aggrevate Vata and Pitta. Drinking warm water throughout the day helps soothe and hydrate the throat. Herbal teas made from ginger, licorice (Mulethi), and slippery elm are soothing. Try brewing one cup a twice daily to ease the dryness. Next, lifestyle adjustments can make a significant difference. Daily steam inhalation with a couple of eucalyptus essential oil drops might help soothe respiratory passages. Incorporating a few minutes of mindfulness breathing exercises or pranayama each day can also calm the mind and have a hydrating effect on the tissues. Kapalbhati or Bhastrika, however, should be avoide because they tend to be drying. For herbal remedies, consider Ashwagandha and Shatavari, which are nourishing and can be beneficial in controlling dry cough. Take these under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, as they know exactly what suits your body constitution and specific condition. Sleep plays an critical role in healing. Try to get at least seven to eight hours of restful sleep every night. Warm milk with a pinch of turmeric or a little nutmeg can promote sound sleep while aiding cough relief. Remember, if your symptoms persist, it is important to keep consulting with healthcare professionals and ayurveda specialists. Sometimes chronic issues may need a combination of approaches for truly resolving them.
