Female pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia, can be quite distressing. In Ayurveda, hair health is closely connected to the doshas, particularly Pitta dosha. Excess Pitta can cause hair thinning, while poor nourishment of scalp tissues, or dhatus, contributes to hair fall. First, consider your diet; increase intake of cooling and nourishing foods. Incorporate moong dal, almonds, sesame seeds, coconut and fresh fruits like apples and pomegranate. Avoid spicy, oily, and processed foods, as they may aggravate Pitta. Regular oil massage of the scalp can enhance circulation, strengthening hair roots. Use a mix of bhringraj oil and coconut oil. These can be slightly warmed and applied, followed by a gentle massage for about 10-15 minutes, perhaps twice a week. This promotes blood flow and nourishes the scalp. Livelihood activities that balance the doshas are crucial too. Ensure you're getting sufficient rest and using stress-reduction techniques like pranayama or yoga, which cools the system and reduces Pitta. Try to practice bhramari pranayama (humming bee breath) as it may prove beneficial in calming your mind and restoring hormonal balance important for healthy hair growth. Herbs like amla and brahmi can also be consumed. Taking triphala churna and amla juice is helpful to detoxify the system and support hair health. 400-500 mg of Brahmi capsules twice a day can aid in stress reduction—a great one for hair health. Lastly, avoid chemical treatments on your hair and minimize the use of heating tools. Embrace your natural hair texture to prevent damage. If these measures do not yield visible results within three to four months, consult a professional for a more in-depth dosha analysis and treatment plan. Remember, patience is key, as natural regimens take time to show results.
