Irregular periods and prolonged bleeding can be quite distressing. Within Ayurveda, this could suggest an imbalance in the Pitta and Vata dosha, particularly affecting rasa dhatu and the woman's reproductive health. It's crucial to address this with a blend of diet, lifestyle, and natural remedies aimed to restore balance. First, let's look at diet. Consider incorporating cooling and nurturing foods that pacify Pitta. This includes foods like cucumbers, melons, and cooked leafy greens. Avoid excessively spicy or acidic foods as they may aggravate the condition. Including herbs like coriander or fennel seeds in meals could aid in balancing the internal heat. It's also beneficial to reduce intake of caffeine and heavy, fried foods that can disrupt Vata. Hydration is key here; sip warm water throughout the day to support optimal digestion and help balance Vata. Herbal teas made with ginger and licorice might soothe and balance the root causes of the bleeding. For lifestyle, focus on a routine — try to wake up and go to bed at the same time each day. Gentle yoga or meditation, particularly yoga postures such as Bhadrasana and Viparita Karani, might calm the mind and support reproductive health. You might find relief using Ayurvedic formulations too. Ashoka tree extracts can specifically target women's menstrual issues, supporting uterine health. However, these should be taken under guidance of a qualified practitioner, not self-prescribed. It's important to monitor stress levels as they can significantly impact menstruation. Techniques like Pranayama, especially Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), can be effective in calming the mind and balancing energies. If the bleeding continues or worsens, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation, to rule out other underlying health issues.
