Finding the right approach to gain weight in a healthy manner with Ayurveda can indeed be a journey. In terms of balancing your constitution, weight gain challenges often stem from an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which typically involves maintaining a nourishing and grounding lifestyle. Let's explore some suitable Ayurvedic recommendations: First, diet plays a crucial role. Try to incorporate more calorie-dense but healthful foods in your meals. Favor sweet, sour, and salty tastes which are Vata-pacifying, involving wholesome foods like root vegetables—consider sweet potatoes or beets. Healthy fats like ghee, sesame oil, and avocados are beneficial. Encourage whole grains, such as basmati rice and quinoa, along with proteins like lentils, mung beans, and paneer. Eating routine matters greatly. Try to have regular meals at consistent times every day. Avoid skipping meals or too much snacking which distrupts digestion, be mindful about your meal portions being slightly larger but not too much to overwhelm your digestion — listen to your body's cues. Regarding herbs, if ashwagandha and shatavari were problematic, consider safer alternatives like licorice or amalaki after consulting an Ayurvedic physician, ensuring that they align with your Prakriti. Consistent and gentle exercise is important to boost your metabolism but avoid excessive workouts which can further aggravate Vata. Consider yoga or tai chi that helps in building strength while promoting relaxation. To enhance digestion, which is key to proper weight gain, sip on warm water through out the day and try a mixture of ginger, fennel seeds, and cumin. Simply boil them in water and sip on it post meals to kindle your Agni. Adequate rest and stress management are crucial. Engage in daily practices that promote relaxation, such as meditation or warm oil massages (abhyanga) with sesame or almond oil to calm Vata. If you experience headaches again or any further issue, it's vital to seek advice from a healthcare professional to thoroughly examine potential underlying causes and fine-tune your regimen safely.
