how to use giloy - #23569

Charlotte

I am really confused about how to use giloy. I’ve heard so many great things about it, especially for boosting immunity but honestly, I don't even know where to start. Last month, I had this awful cold that lasted forever. Friends kept telling me, "Try giloy!" but I just kept pushing it off. Eventually, my mom gave me some powdered giloy she bought from an herbal store, but she didn’t really tell me how to use it properly. I mixed a teaspoon in water once, and the taste was kinda gross, lol. I read online that you can take it with other herbs?? Or even honey? Ugh, it’s a bit overwhelming. Should I take it daily? And like, what about the dosage? Is there a specific time that’s better to take it? Also, do any of you guys know if there are any side effects? I just wanna do things right but I’m feeling lost with all the info out there. Any advice on how to use giloy effectively would be super appreciated!

Giloy, known as Guduchi in Ayurveda, is indeed praised for its immunity-boosting properties and has many more benefits. Understanding how to incorporate it into your routine can be a bit tricky, but let's simplify it. Starting with dosage, for the powdered form you have, a common guideline would be about 1 teaspoon (around 3-5 grams) daily. It's typically taken on an empty stomach, ideally in the morning, as this time aligns with your body's peak absorption capabilities. Mixing it with warm water might help with the taste, and adding a bit of honey can not only enhance the flavor but also boost its immune-supporting benefits; Ayurveda considers honey to be yogavahi, which enhances the potency of the herbs it's combined with. Combining giloy with other herbs is another option, particularly with amla (for added Vitamin C) or tulsi (for its adaptogenic and respiratory benefits). However, it's not strictly necessary – giloy on its own is potent enough. Addressing the taste issue, if you find it too unpleasant, you might consider giloy tablets or capsules available in the market, which offer a more convenient way to consume it without the aftertaste. As for side effects, giloy is generally safe but as with any supplement, moderation is key. Excessive intake can potentially lead to constipation or a slight drop in blood sugar levels, so if you have diabetes, keep an eye on your glucose levels. Lastly, consistency is crucial. Taking it daily for a few weeks can help you notice its full range of benefits. Always remember, if you start experiencing unusual symptoms or unsure about interactions with any medications you may be taking, do consult with an ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare provider. Don't let the multitude of information overwhelm you – just keep it simple, and with regular use, you're likely to find giloy a valuable addition to your wellness routine.
