can i take ashwagandha with water - #23983

Olivia

I am really confused about this whole ashwagandha thing. I’ve been hearing about it for a while, and honestly, I’m kinda intrigued, but not fully sure what to do with it. My friend gave me some ashwagandha powder a few days ago saying it's great for stress relief and sleep but like, can I take ashwagandha with water?! I tried it mixed with milk yesterday, but it felt a bit heavy on my stomach – not sure if that’s normal? I've read that water might be easier and less intense. Also, I've been feeling super jittery lately, weird anxiety, and I thought maybe ashwagandha could help. But my mind just races like a hamster on a wheel! I just want to know, is taking ashwagandha with water okay? Would it work just as well or is milk better for absorption? I mean, does it change something? Would love to hear your experiences or if anyone has tried both ways! Thanks!

Taking ashwagandha with water is perfectly fine and quite common. In Ayurveda, ashwagandha is traditionally taken with milk, often because it acts as an anupan (carrier), enhancing the herb's properties and aiding in its absorption. But, as you've noticed, taking it with milk can feel heavy for some individuals, especially if there are digestive concerns or if you are lactoceintolerant. Water, on the other hand, provides a much lighter vehicle for the ashwagandha, making it easier on stomach especially if you're dealing with those jittery, anxious feelings you mentioned. When using water, consider stirring about half a teaspoon of ashwagandha powder in half a cup of warm water. Consuming it first thing in the morning or before bed could be beneficial, particularly since you're looking at addressing anxiety and promoting restful sleep. Anyhow, listen to your body's signal; if there's any discomfort, adjust the dosage accordingly or seek personalized advice from a practitioner. Now, regarding absorption, milk contains fats that can enhance absorption of certain compounds within ashwagandha but taking it with water still presents the benefits ashwagandha has to offer sabout calming the mind, alleviating stress, supporting overall strength and vitality. Given your racing mind and anxiety, you might wanna also explore other lifestyle modifications. Balancing Vata dosha can be valuable here, since it’s often associated with feelings of anxiety and restlessness. Regular grounding practices like yoga, meditation or leisurely walks in nature can complement ashwagandha's effects. Moreover, be conscious on diet; warming, nourishing foods can help calm Vata excess. Avoid too much caffeine or over stimulating activities if you're feeling particularly stressed. All these approaches—consuming ashwagandha, making lifestyle adjusts—create a cohesive plan that can potentially mitigate the symptoms you're experiencing. As with any herbal remedy, it's key to observe how your body responds and seek professional advice if you need tailored guidance for your specific constitution and concerns.
