can we drink amla juice during periods - #24202

Olivia

I am dealing with something kinda annoying this month. My periods hit me like a truck, and I read somewhere that drinking amla juice might help, but I’ve got some doubts. Is it actually recommended to drink amla juice during periods? I usually struggle with really bad cramps and it helps to have something refreshing, but I’ve heard mixed things. One friend said it’s great for reducing inflammation, while another told me that everything should be avoided during that time, especially anything acidic. I started drinking amla juice in the mornings for its benefits. But I want to know, can we drink amla juice during periods without messing up anything? Like, would it help with cramps or make my mood swings worse? Honestly, the whole situation is confusing!! I just want some clarity cause I don’t wanna regret my choices later! Definitely needs to be something that will help, not add to the hassle. Any thoughts?! Thanks in advance!

You can drink amla juice during your periods, and it may actually offer some benefits. Amla, or Indian gooseberry, is packed with vitamin C and antioxidants which help in reducing inflammation — something your friend mentioned correctly. This property might assist in alleviating some of the discomfort you experience with menstrual cramps. Moreover, its rejuvenating qualities could potentially enhance your overall energy levels, which can be helpful given the fatigue that sometimes accompanies menstruation. However, it's important to consider a few things. Firstly, the acidity of amla can sometimes be an issue for individuals with sensitive stomachs. If you've noticed that you have an upset stomach or increased acidity when consuming amla, it might exacerbate the condition during your periods, as your digestive fire or agni can be weaker at this time. If you're comfortable with it otherwise, incorporating it carefully should not pose a problem. Regarding mood swings, amla is not directly linked to worsening them. In fact, it can be refreshing and revitalizing because it supports the liver and aids in detoxification, which might contribute to a sense of stability. If you're worried, try drinking it in small amounts in the morning, as you’ve been doing, and seeing how your body responds. For managing the cramps, you may also consider a warm sesame oil massage on your lower abdomen, as it's soothing and balances Vata dosha, which is responsible for pain and discomfort during periods. Drinking herbal teas like ginger or chamomile can additionally be comforting during this time. Keep an eye on how you feel when consuming amla juice during your cycle. You know your body best; if you notice any adverse effects, cut back and see if that helps. Balance is essential, and moderating your intake according to your body's signals will generally keep you in good stead during your periods.
