I do have white discharge from my body - #25362
I am a 15-year-old girl. I have been having white vaginal discharge for the past few years. Sometimes it is creamy and stretchy, and sometimes it looks like paneer (cottage cheese). There is no major itching or pain, but I feel uncomfortable and confused. Is this normal at my age or is it a fungal infection? Please suggest some ayurvedic medicine, home remedies, and daily precautions I should follow. Thank you."

At 15, experiencing white vaginal discharge that varies in consistency is quite common as part of the natural menstrual cycle. This discharge helps to keep the vagina clean and is influenced by hormonal changes. Typically, creamy stretchy discharge is a normal occurrence and indicates the presence of estrogen. However, if it resembles cottage cheese and is accompanied by a bad odor or changes in color, it may indicate a yeast infection, commonly known as candidiasis.
First, let’s focus on maintaining vaginal health. It’s important to ensure good hygiene but, avoid using harsh soaps or douches. Use only water or a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser. Wearing breathable, cotton underwear can help too.
In Ayurveda, maintaining balance in your body’s doshas – particularly Kapha and Pitta – is essential to managing this condition. Consider reducing intake of heavy-to-digest foods like dairy and excessive sweet foods which can aggravate Kapha.
Here are some specific steps you might consider:
1. Dietary Adjustments: Include foods that are high in Vitamin C such as citrus fruits like oranges or lemon in warm water, which helps to support immune function. Turmeric, with its natural antifungal properties, can be incorporated into your diet.
2. Ayurvedic Herbs: Triphala, known for balancing the body’s doshas, can be consumed. Mix half a teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm water and take it before bedtime.
3. Home Remedy: Apply plain yogurt topically, which contains beneficial probiotics to help restore balance, only if it’s not causing any irritation.
4. Daily Routines: Practice daily yoga or simple exercises to enhance blood flow and improve hormonal balance. Also, stay hydrated as water helps you flush out toxins.
If symptoms persist or worsen, it would be prudent to seek an evaluation from a health professional, as persistent discharge changes might require medical attention.
