AVP Dhurdhooradi Thailam - #27253

Gabriella

I am dealing with some really frustrating skin issues lately, and I’m not sure what to do. A few weeks ago, I started noticing this awful dryness and redness on my arms. At first, I thought it was just, I dunno, a reaction to the weather or something, but then it got worse. Even my partner noticed and asked why my skin looked so irritated! I’ve tried creams from the pharmacy but nothing seems to work long term. A friend mentioned AVP Dhurdhooradi Thailam, saying it might help with these symptoms, but I don’t knw much about it. Has anyone here used this oil for similar skin problems? What exactly does it do? I've read it's good for eczema and such, but I'm worried if it's really safe to use, especially since my skin is super sensitive right now. Could that oil really be effective for redness and dryness? I mean, I just want to feel comfortable in my own skin again, you know? Any advice on how to apply it or if it has any side effects would be appreciated. I just feel kinda lost and hope I can get back to normal soon!

Doctors' responses

AVP Dhurdhooradi Thailam is indeed known for its benefits for skin conditions like dryness and irritation. Originating from classical Ayurvedic recipes, it often contains Dhatura, coconut oil, and sometimes other herbal ingredients beneficial for pitta dosha imbalances, which can manifest as redness and inflammation of the skin. Sensitive skin should be treated with caution, so patch test before application. Apply a small amount of the thailam on a less affected area and monitor for 24 hours.

If no adverse reaction occur, gently massage the oil onto the affected areas once daily, preferably two hours before showering. The coconut oil base provides a moisturizing effect, which can help with the dryness, while Dhatura is soothing and may reduce the redness and irritation. Avoid using the oil on open sores or excessively raw areas to prevent aggravation.

Continue this process for a few weeks, but it’s also important to address internal factors contributing to your skin issues. Consider adopting a pitta-pacifying diet incorporating cooling foods like cucumber, coriander, and fennel, avoiding hot, spicy, or fried foods that can worsen pitta. Hydration is important too, so drinking plenty of water supports skin health.

Should the condition persist or worsen, consulting with an Ayurvedic physician for a more personalized approach might be beneficial. They can analyze your dosha and other health factors to recommend a more tailored routine.

Paying attention to your skin’s reaction is crucial, as even natural products like Dhurdhooradi Thailam can cause sensitivities in some individuals. Side effects are rare but if you experience increased itching or irritation, discontinue use immediately.

Balance is key — over-washing or applying too many different products can sometimes exacerbate skin issues, so simplicity in skin care is often the best approach to promote healing and resilience.

AVP Dhurdhooradi Thailam is indeed a formulation that is often used in Ayurvedic medicine for skin-related issues like dryness, redness, and irritation. This oil is specially prepared with ingredients like coconut oil and dhatura, which are known for their soothing and nourishing properties. It works by pacifying the aggravated Vata and Pitta doshas that often manifest as dryness and redness in the skin. Given your sensitivity, it’s reasonable to exercise caution.

Before fully applying this oil, a patch test is crucial. Apply a small amount on a less sensitive area, maybe your forearm, and observe for any reaction over 24 hours. If there’s no increased redness or rash, it’s generally safe to proceed. You can use the oil by applying it gently to the affected areas, ideally after a bath when your skin is warm and pores are open, allowing for better absorption.

Use a liberal amount but don’t overdo it. Once applied, leave it on for at least 30 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. Avoid using harsh soaps that can strip your skin further. Using this oil 3-4 times a week may help in reducing symptoms. As your condition is sensitive, integrating stress management techniques might support healing, as stress can exacerbate skin issues.

However, if the symptoms persist or worsen, it’s prudent to consult a healthcare professional, as persistent skin conditions might require more comprehensive management. Ensure that the oil you use is of high quality and from a reputable source. And if you have any underlying health conditions or are pregnant, consulting with a physician familiar with Ayurveda prior to use is advised.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
